silent choice question

so I want to add silent choice to my boat,,boat has merc 496 HOs,,found a couple of used set of off 502s but was told they are different and will not fit a 496,,does anybody know what the difference is?

Thanks

Call the manufacturer of the silent choice and see if they will fit. I'm sure there are some kind of identification on them a

I did,,they said their book shows a different part numbers, but they do not know what the difference are,LOL

Has to do with the differences in the risers between the two different style exhaust I would imagine. Any reason to choose silent choice over switchable mufflers?

the Y pipes are allready there so I thought it would be a easy install,,

so are you saying the difference would be in the length of the tube going to the Y pipe? because I would think the angle would be the same because the Y pipe is the same for both applications, kind of what I was thinking

Its probably the length of the pipe going to the Y pipe. When I went from stock manifolds to Eddie marine I had Corsa add some length to this area. Later during my rebuild had to go to even higher exhaust so I removed the diverters and set them on a shielf

Just going off of past visuals I would think there is a difference in the height of the exit points of the risers and possibly even a bit of the angle. Not sure just guessing those would be the differences between the two. Surprised your Fountain did not come with silent choice yet they installed and then blocked off the y-pipes. I've never been a fan of the pipes being there and capped. Just makes me nervous!

thats what I was thinking,,If that is the only difference I should be able to replace the 4" hose that is between the Y pipe and the diverter with a longer piece ,right?

Maybe, depends on the angle

no the Y pipe is not capped off, right now the boat has thru hull and Y pipe exhaust working together,,it has what looks like diverters but has nothing inside the diverters ,,so some exhaust exist out the Y pipe and some out the Tips,,actually not a bad set up,,

Got ya. Seen that before and yeah on stock power not a bad way to go if you aren't looking for it to be loud. I'm sure Corsa wants a pretty penny for those diverters/solenoids new.

The 496 has a 3" exhaust not 4". That is the difference.

Are you sure? My 2003 fountain has the same 496 ho with the quick and quite fountain exhaust. Mufflers are 4" diameter but the exhaust manifold risers are 3". Y pipe is 3". 3" through transom then pipe is welded to 4" mufflers.
