Looking for any input on 30ft single engine cat

Any 30ft cats out there being built with single screw.Looking at buying one with out power. Would like to build one with a single big hp inboard. No full center pod lake style cats thanks.

Griff 07-17-2017 10:29 PM

Simple answer.........NO.
The largest single engine cats I've seen are 27-28 and have a center pod. Don't even think you could get the drive deep enough without a center pod.

Wobble 07-17-2017 10:47 PM

what kind of drive would you need for 27-28 cat with a single and 800hp?

noli 07-18-2017 05:31 AM

.

A 30 foot cat would be too big for a single outboard motor, so I'm assuming you mean a single I/O?

If we're talking about I/O power, on a single application the motor would have to sit on the tunnel and would be very tall. The deck would have to made so tall that it will not make sense.

Predator has a 30 foot widebody cat, I would recommend two LSx motors placed in each sponson with IMCO -2 silver drives with integrated steering right on the drive itself

All you need are two 525HP LSx marine motors

The LS525HP EFI (dressed) with SS headers, plumbed ready for install but no driveline/drive is $25K each
The LS650HP EFI (dressed) with SS headers, plumbed ready for install but no driveline/drive is $31K each

carbureted LS570HP no exhaust LS3 6.2L motor $15K

IMCO drive is around $18K each

Arneson drive kit would work great

The XR drives with Sport Master Shorty would work as well

.

A lot of guys on the west coast are running XRs with that HP. They rarely surface them and they last decently well

Does someone sell these fully dressed for a I/O config? Other then the 575.

Thanks, a friend was considering the warlock in the classifieds, bravo drive and supercharged. The one I knew that was around here(24-25) ate bravos pretty regularly, but he would run out into Galveston Bay where it can get choppy in a hurry.

Yes

...and I just sent you a PM. He's in Tennessee. Good guy to talk to.

DCB does a single 29
Eliminator does a single 28
Nordic does a single 28

all the above have a center pod and I agree with comment earlier, don't see how the boat would work right without a center pod.

I didn't know I was so expensive.. Guess I need to start collecting more now. :)

Rik, your drives are bullet-proof!

Single cat 07-18-2017 09:16 PM

Thanks for all the imput. But I'm not looking for a drive I'm looking for a 30ft cat haul. I know you can put a short center pod a 30ft cat and run a single.

Sounds like you've got it figured out! Let us know how that works out for you..........

JPEROG 07-19-2017 10:04 AM

Dave Adams (Liberator in Texas) built one of his with single inboard configuration. I know it was up for sale at one point but I have no idea where the boat is at now. You might want to give him a call, they are a 30 spectre splash. I think the guy ended up with a B-Max to have it live.

If a larger single engine powered boat is what you are after why try to modify someones 30ft hull and hope it works when you can go to a proven center pod setup like DCB, Eliminator or Nordic? DCB built a 29 with a single 1350 that ran like 140 MPH and got on plane just fine. I saw the boat run a number of times and it ran awesome. The Nordic 28 SS is an awesome boat, has that flat deck and sharp entry design that is awesome looking but is a much smaller boat vs the 29 DCB. The Nordic was designed as a single engine deal and I believe holds the record as the fastest single engine powered I/O at like 147 MPH

I knew Steve, tragic loss. Steve never got the opportunity to have a run recorded in his RPM. Bucks 28 Nordic however was recorded.

Ocean Express makes a 28 foot single cat with/without a mini pod...

I recall seeing a single 30ft cat by "Raptor" - if I recall correctly. I don't know anything about them other than they, or it, was advertised as 30' with a single

Single cat 07-19-2017 06:40 PM

We have a 26ft cat know with big power. Was looking more into a 30ft cat with out a full pod so it would run better in rougher water and could be set up for a single and it doesn't cost 140k plus with out power.

SecondWind 07-19-2017 07:08 PM

Put a 12 inch box on your 26 and call it a day!

Do you not understand what the purpose of a center pod is?

what is rough water to you?

I'm not very smart but I can't imagine ANY drive holding up in the center of a true cat. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
