Yesterday was my first time in the ocean.
Yesterday was my first time in the ocean. Dougie Fresh and Blondie took my wife and I on one of the famous Yardhouse runs. Damn, that was fun! My wife didn’t stop talking about it all the way home. Believe she would have let me drive down to Dick Simon and order a V-hull on the spot.
On the way up to Long Beach the ocean was very flat. But it was still a ton more than we are use to on the lake. Now the way home – that was different! Although not much on swells, it was very snotty – what Doug called washing machine water. In the morning, I actually thought my 26” Daytona could handle it, but on the way home, no chance. I would have died. My arms are sore this morning from holding on (and so is my face from smiling).
We cruised back at 60mph and it felt like we were flying (at times we were). On the lake, 60 mph is a slow cruise – almost boring. But in the ocean yesterday afternoon, it was anything but boring. Bouncing, flying, getting hit in the face with spray (funny tasting water!), throttles back and forth. I was standing behind the driver both ways seeing if I though I could read the water. On the way home, no chance!
Bottom line: That was kick ass, exhilarating and intimidating.
p.s. Thanks again Doug & Jill, you too are awesome (and Rick too I guess )

Ask at the front desk and bring you checkbook!
Glad to see that you enjoyed the rough stuff. Make sure we get you something before the DSM Big Water Poker Run.
