Mantus anchor

I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase one of these. They seem to work great with better holding. Does anyone use one? I would like to get one that isn't huge but enough to hold the boat on a normal day in the river. I have basically 39 ft to transom. Sport boat. 9000 lbs. From all the videos I have watched, it looks like a 17 lb mantus will hold fine. Again anyone using one. What type and size is your boat and anchor. What feed back do you have on the performance of the anchor. Thank you

Looks interesting, I'm not pleased with the box anchor

veloc410 07-27-2017 06:29 PM

They have a video with the mantus and box. I was looking at 13 or 17 lb mantus. Not sure what I can get away with. This video is impressive.

Why? It was stellar for many years for me, so much so I chucked my Danforth.

The box works very well in Galveston bay and can be difficult to retrieve, normally have drive over it with the boat to pull it up. If the Mantus sets any harder it could be too much and then it doesn't fold up (as far as I can see) which is a big plus for the box

veloc410 07-27-2017 08:32 PM

I had a guardian anchor on my last boat 320 velocity. I liked it because it was very light and easy to handle but I always had issues in low weeds. It always pulled out. Not cool in a current when there is 30 boats boats down stream and only 30 ft away. I watched a bunch of videos on that mantus and it kicks butt. I'm definitely going for that anchor, I just don't want a big bulky anchor that is hard to store under bench seat or in one of my side lockers in the cockpit. I figure the 13 or 17 will work fine judging by what I saw in numerous videos. Lol watched one video of a guy on q lawn tractor with either an 8 or 13 an it stopped it dead in its tracks. It was a comparison to a fortress

I have drifted 50-100yrds hoping the box would set. Don't get me wrong, the box is great once it sets. the fear of drifting into other boats isn't fun

I just purchased the 17lb galvanized MANTUS anchor. Should have it next week sometime. I'll let you know how it performs. My last anchor, a guardian was nice but I do remember always having to go out and get set by hand to make sure it would dig in. I'm not going to miss that. The new 17 lb mantus is supposedly undersized for my boat but I called them and for the day anchoring in the current of niagara river, he agreed that this anchor would prove itself. I anchor in weeds mud and sand with other boats parked down current so I need to hook up fast and stay there. I will keep you posted. Again my boat is a velocity 410 9000lbs dry. So figure 10500

I was going to go Mantus but with the half ring structure it would't fit in my anchor box. After researching here I wound up with a Fortress, 15' of chain and a Mantus swivel.

veloc410 08-01-2017 12:16 PM

I'm worried about the half ring also. That's why I'm going with a smaller than suggested model. If I have to remove the ring than so be it. Or maybe I can use some type of cam lock fastener for the ring to make it quick.

I believe the ring is what makes the Mantus self right. Without it, it's just like everything else.

veloc410 08-02-2017 10:51 AM

Agreed

veloc410 08-02-2017 10:55 AM

I mentioned removing the ring to store the anchor when not in use. I mentioned cam lock fastener for easy removal and install of ring.

Kevin thanks for the heads up on contest. Just put in for it. :) I recieved my free t shirt today, cool shirt, no anchor yet. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. Can't wait to drop it in and see what it will do.

I see what you did there, sneaky! LOL

Not for me, I work on the boat enough out of the water. The last thing I want to do is assembling and disassembling an anchor on the water.

veloc410 08-08-2017 05:05 PM

Lol I hear that.

veloc410 08-09-2017 02:58 PM

Ok finally had a chance to get that mantus anchor wet. It hooked up immediately in the weeds. Rinsed off very easily and not many weeds on it either. I think the 13 lbs would have have done the job. I bought the 17. There is a good wind plus the current in the Niagara river. It ildoes take up some space and won't fit under my bench or side lockers but I have plenty of space it the engine bay to put some type of plastic enclosure for for it. I'm giving it it a big thumbs up. 👍 this thing can hold a big boat. As I said I feel the 13 would have been plenty. I have w 41 ft velocity. You can launch this off a catapult it will dig right away

turbos230 08-10-2017 11:41 AM

Good, time to get a 13 lb,I have a 38 foot boat,I was worried that this anchor would be hard to retrieve it but with the change of angle it seems to come out of the ground easy.

One thing that is strange it is looks like it has other wires or cables I dont know if you have to use that or?

looks to be the rig for the camera

veloc410 08-10-2017 05:15 PM

It pulls out easy once your over it. My boat is basically 39 then add for swim platform. Anyway my engine bay has a 1.5 to 2 ft wide floor behind the bench. I can easily make a home for the mantus there. I don't think it should be stored anywhere out in the open. That spade means business. I was going to trade down to the 13 but keeping this one. I throw it over the side then walk the line up to the front cleat heck

veloc410 08-10-2017 05:29 PM

I called directly, they were on sale 5 percent off free shipping and he threw in a shirt when I asked about one
