I could be wrong but I can' think of any non step boat being more efficient then a step boat. Two different boats but my bud had a 35 cig mistress about the same wight as the 33zx just over 12k I believe and was running mid 70s with 700hp per side. Like I sead not the same boat but a way to see how much power it takes to get a non step boat to run above 70
Ill have to see if I can come aross that test again, they actually instrumented it pretty well with fuel consumption info at every rpm from like 2000 to 5200 in 500 rpm increments etc |
It is heard to be 100% on a side by side because there has to be made at different times so they will not be 100% the same. But to think about it the 38 cig top gun non step boat takes over 1000+ hp blower motors to put it up to 100mph a twin step gun will get there with around 700hp and could be in the 80s with 525s or around there.

Even when it comes down to mid range speeds the less boat in the water and the less drag the more efficient the boat will run. Some one once told me that old school racers would sand the bottom's of there boats so that it would reduce the friction. For an example take two peace of glass and put water on one and place the other peace of glass on top and try to pull them apart. Then take sandpaper and sand the glass and do it again. It will be easier to get them a part. It' pretty cool I did it with my son one time.

Stripped the bilge out bit, ditching the silent choice and blocked off the exhaust ports on the Bravos, replacing the bilge pump, float switch, power washing the thing out from 28 years of sludge and repainting it while Im this deep in the thing
Pulled the trim pumps out because one solenoid wasnt working, replaced all the solenoids and decided to strip brackets up repaint and clean everything up on them https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e6ea5f7d84.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fc6080d5ec.jpg |
