1988 top gun

Hey guys , so I'm becoming a big boy now . Selling my 25 baja outlaw and looking to go big or go home. I'm no millionaire but looking at a few 88 top gun cigarettes. Anyone have experience with this year of boat or know of someone that has had experience. Are they built well? I will get a survey done . But just want some clarity on these . Thanks guys

You're not going to get much bad said about a CIG 38 Top Gun, even from the people that hate CIG. They are kind of the consummate go-fast powerboat.

The main comment you're going to get on them is that they won't be a speed demon. Heavier flat bottom 30 year old boat. Same as my cafe only bigger and more efficient hull. Regardless any boat that age obviously you're looking for rot, and mechanical integrity. Welcome aboard - you'll love having a 1 on the side of your boat.

OK so thus boat has new 540 bulldogs to 556ci , new TRS drives all redone . Very nice boat bit I'm hearing the drives are not that great. What kind of speed will I get out of this thing.

great looking boat

H20 what am I looking at for speed in these things ?

F-2 Speedy 08-21-2017 11:53 AM

All depends on the power their making ?? 550 ? 600+..........should be mid 60's to mid 70's....if you take it easy on the TRS drives they will last for a while

Remember its a 10-11K boat..........make sure you have something other than a half ton...:D

Looks like a clean all original top gun. The only negative about an older top gun is they take a ton of power to move and they may porpoise a bit in flat water. Other than that they're great boats. I've heard nothing but good things about the dealer as well. Good luck

Yes - big boy pants! Having just come from a 29 Outlaw to a '99 Gun, it is a different experience. I don't think the hulls changed much from '88 to '99 (no steps) - I see 65 on GPS with plain stock 502 MPI / Bravos. I would hope you would be in the low 70's with higher HP motors. No regrets - it's just a little more 'serious' in a Cigarette - in terms of maintenance, insurance, docking and not letting the big 1 on the side go to your head...
