Only take the hitch off when I need to use my bike rack, or at the end of the season. Bumper hitch? lol!

every a**hole who says one of these things when they find out you own a boat during a conversation-
You know what boat stands for- break out another thousand you know a boat is just a hole in the water you throw money into they say the happiest day for a boater is the day they buy their boat and the day they sell it It really drives me nuts when this happens. |
And arrogant boat snobs here in MA. We drove our old 21 all over- from Salem to oak bluffs and everywhere in between. The looks and attitudes of people when we would pull into a marina sometimes was ridiculous.

What drives me nuts are the guys that spend all there time washing polishing and cleaning there boats and never use them. At our marina there are boats that never move.
|
People pulling their kids on tubes in a busy part of the lake. Its dangerous!! Go find a nice quite cove to pull your toys around!
When people leave their bumpers out while they are on plane! |
So the common pet peeve is PEOPLE. :D
|
My hitch stays in too. No other real pet peeves. I get on the water to relax and have fun so if someone is taking too long at the boat ramp I'll just relax a bit longer. Not gonna get water rage.
|
Jet ski's = smokers!
People that use high beams at night on the ramp Some of my favorites! |

When people leave their bumpers out while they are on plane! The second one.....of all things .... why does that bother some people so bad? I on the other hand have found so many free floating fenders I haven't had to buy one for any of my many boats for over 25 years. |
Snail boaters, unhappiest bunch of people ever. Always complaining about something. Your boat it too loud, your wake is too big. Every weekend without fail I get flipped off by some unhappy snailboater getting their hate on
|
I don't want to be anybody's peeve. Please tell me where my Mercury 525 serial number is?
|
edit: nevermind, photobucket isn't working for me today. Why can't we post photos on this forum from our phones like we can every other forum on the interwebz?

My pet peeves, shoes in the boat, crumbs on the floor, and of course, the **** shows at the launch. Specifically the loading of gear and coolers while blocking the ramp when launching and at the end of the day the morons who do not pull up enough to prepare for going down the road and make it difficult for the next person to position the truck/trailer to retrieve their boat. As for the trailer hitch dilemma, ...yeah, it'll be in the receiver so watch your step my phriend! |
On Lake Norman it is all of the pontoons (sometimes runabouts) running around with docking lights on.
They do this at night too. Super stupid. Big pet peeve for me. The fenders hanging off the side of the boat at speed is also very popular here. |
I fought with Photofuket today tooth and nail and was finally able to upload a few links. Great question though 87Magnum... Photofuket is a PITA.

No issues using Flickr
Edit,,,, some issues LOL |

My new house is just around the corner from the public boat ramp so rather than watching the morning news we just sit on the deck and watch. Every weekend there are fist fights, arguments, trucks blocking people in and cutting people off ... no ramp etiquette.....but it is entertaining.
Sounds like fun! |

Boating pet peave?
1- people leaving the laundry hanging ( fenders ) 2- people who don’t know “red right returning” I’m not asking you to circumnavigate the globe but just a couple road rules would be good. |
1. People that don’t know to stay right when meeting another boat. I try to move over and they stay on a collision course. I then go to the left. They move that way now. As a last resort, I come off plane and stare at the idiot. Learn how to drive or stay home.
2. Grandma and grandpa pulling their grandkids behind the pontoon in the most crowded place on the lake on a holiday weekend mid afternoon. 3. Jet Ski operators that never look where they are going, jump your wake, and make wakes in no wake zones. |
Sad thing is that every person at the root of each and every gripe listed here will argue tooth and nail that they are smarter, justified and entitled to their actions/ comments than the competent boater.
Some people should be banned from looking at a water much less operating a boat/PWC as it seems to bring out the Jack_$$ genome in their DNA |

I've never removed my hitch since I bought the truck in 2007. Totally destroyed the front bumpers of the Civic and the Jetta who bumped me, didn't hurt my bumper a bit. :)
I also don't care about gas $$. It's pretty rare I invite anyone along with me, but when I do I'd be going anyhow. Bring your own drinks and food and don't ***** if I steal a beer and we're good :p My pet peeves at the ramp aren't so much the people who don't really know what they're doing, because we were all newbs once. If you can take 5 minutes to help them out and give them a few tips maybe next time won't be so painful. The ramp idiots who bother me are the ones who fully know what they're doing, and they're just jerks about it. We've got a lot of fishing captains around here and some of them love to drop the boat in and tie off right there in the ramp, blocking it for anyone else while they wait for their clients. And then they tell their clients to park in trailer parking spots, which are sometimes limited. |
As an Ozark boater, I feel obligated to throw the orange flag in as a peeve. Doesn't help that in their infinite wisdom, the Missouri Water Patrol changed the law a few years back to make it even more confusing to boaters. In the end, most just say F it and leave the flag up all the time, thus, negating any benefit the flag has.

one of my pet peeves ,is boat owners that get upset when their quest do not offer gas money,,,its my boat I am a grown adult and asked you to come out for a ride, the last thing I would expect from any of my quest is fuel money,,when my friends that do not own boats invite me over their house for a drink they do not expect me to give them money for the electric bill,,,LOL

Our boat only seats 4, the guest are not expected to do anything except relax and have a good time.
If they offer to buy lunch and a couple beers ... I am not offended. We only do a scum line wipe down when we pull the boat out, if the guest choose to grab a towel ... I am not offended, again. Yes there are a few less than qualified peeps on the water. How's your New Year so far? Mines OK :Score-101010: |

No kidding, if you need money to run your boat (other than a specified run agreed beforehand) then you need a new hobby. I especially like the post where the owner wants a guest to help wash down the boat.
Boating is dying my friends. The only way we can get the next generation into it is not making it such a burden. If you give someone a ride in your car you don't expect them to wash it later but if you are driving someone to work everyday they should pitch in. |
I don't get it with needing help getting the boat on and off the trailer at a ramp
I have had boats from 18 to 36 ft in length and have 99% of the time did everything myself. My Daytona is a ***** to trailer IF it is windy or there is a current because the prop shaft is SOO high. If you bang your leg on my hitch than maybe you should put the phone back in its holster. I don't hear anyone complaining about my mirrors sticking out. With the Scarab34 we used to invite friends to go for the day and they would ask what they needed to bring. I always told them I supplied the boat and the gas they had to bring what THEY wanted to eat and drink. The way I figured it I was going out anyways and a few more people weren't going to cost much more in gas. BUT - If you have friends that hang out on your boat almost every weekend than they should help with the gas. |
Kayackers and other type rowing craft paddling their way up or down the intercoastal waterway IN THE CHANNEL. It's a big waterway folks, get out of the way of the powerboaters that need the channel!

I have a few. One is someone pulling up to raft off you at dock or out at the sandbar talking with no fenders or lines on and ready. I mean if you don' give a damn about your boat thats fine but I doo.
I one of my biggest is when a boat full of pasty white guys are on a boat with no girls playing the I'm on a boat rap song as loud as they can......I mean really every one knows your are on a boat dumb a $$ and you are just pointing out how big of a dush bag you are. That bugs the shot out of me |
