Best way to check for bottom hook
I want to check the bottom of my 2006 42 fountain EX for hook or any other issues. What is the best way to do this and where should I look? Does 42 executioner have any hook built into bottom like other boats I have heard about? Do I check flat running surface and chines for hook? I have 5' straight edge ruler thought I would get under boat and just see if its off and also how much hook if any is acceptable.

Run a straight line starting at the dead center of the hull (keel), start from the transom. Work your way to the nearest strake. Run a straight line on the strakes. Check the chines too.
Is there anything leading you to believe it has a hook? Has performance changed? Sometime other issues like hull damage, gouges, scrapes can hurt etc. Beautiful boats by the way. Could need blueprinting: https://www.wavetowave.com/home/2017...ue-in-the-face |
Blacktruck, thank you for article and info. Well yes I am struggling with setup on 42 fountain and think most of my problem is in drive heights and props but also wanted to check the bottom. The boat will run pretty good in 2 foot chop but looses a lot speed in calm water. like 8mph. I read in other forums that guys found hooks in other 42s and gained a lot performance when fixed. I am located in WI does anyone know who would be good at blue printing bottom in my area?

It helped all the boats he to be a little faster, and handle better too. My late was always looking for a few miles an hour... Let us know how you make out. Stephen |

Look in the Fiberglass and Paint and the Restorations and Upgrades sections to see his work. |
