No, the worst would be if this puts Kidde out of business. Hopefully that won't be the case.

Guess they should've made a better product instead of taking a short but to improve profit margins. Pay now or pay later.

I went to their website and entered one of my recalled fire extinguishers. They replied via the link that they are sending me a replacement. Site states that the plastic actuation handle fails, not allowing activation. I will soon enter my other Kidde units for replacement.

I had that happen a couple of years ago, grabbed another one and was able to deal with the problem. (lawnmower fire)

I don't think it's fair to say they took any shortcuts. One failure out of 37 million units is a relatively low failure rate. More than likely the the unit failed due to being knocked around in someones trunk or behind a seat, in a toolbox, ect.

Not too many companies can take "short cut" and stay in business 100 years! Guy opened the company when he was 23:

Entered three model/serial numbers, all plastic handles. Only one was an affected unit and a replacement is on the way.

Since we're talking extinguishers.... if I get my 90's-era Amerex halon extinguisher inspected and charged with halotron, will it meet USCG standards?

I have a replacement on the way. Interested to see what they want me to do with the defective one.

Same here, the email I received said the there would be instructions in the new box stating what to do with the old one, still waiting

I received mine yesterday for an older FA240HD and the one I received is 1 lb lighter in the capacity than what I had.

The new one states Gross Weight of only 7 lbs 15 oz min. / 8 lbs 11 oz, compared to my original Gross Weight of 8 lbs 15 oz min. / 9 lbs 11 oz max.

Also the new one is approx 3.5 inches shorter (overall height and cylinder height).

Box had return instructions with pre-paid shipping label.

Hope that helps,

Dave
