Kidde Recalls Popular Fire Extinguishers
Take a moment to check your onboard fire extinguisher, https://speedonthewater.com/in-the-n...e-extinguisher.

If you read the report, they made 37 million units. ONE failed and caused a death.
Now while I agree that death would suck if it was a loved one, you just have to wonder about the reason for the recall. |
And I think the death was caused by a car crash fire and someone with an extinguisher that didn't work.
They are making it sound like it blew up and killed someone. |

Thanks for the link, I'll check next time I'm onboard. Worst case is we get free fresh units.

Any Plastic headed extinguisher is part of the recall from the ones made in 1973 till now... Personally they've always been junk but cheap which is why they end up in every boat made.... If you have one get rid of it and purchase a decent one from your local Fire Equipment Distributor...

No, the worst would be if this puts Kidde out of business. Hopefully that won't be the case.
This is like the Firestone disaster, sure the Explorers were top heavy SUVs but how many actually rolled due to the Firestones failing on their own (not due to under inflation, bald tires, etc). |
It is, apparently, not every plastic handle one. I entered the #'s from the 2 from my boat and 1 from home and they replied that these were not affected ones.
