How many people would attend any form of offshore/inshore boat race if they had to buy a $50 to $100 ticket for the existing product ? Yup, almost no one. This form of racing is more of a club racing environment where a bunch of hard working guys with some extra money compete along with some self sponsored or corporate sponsored types. There is no money to be made for the racers, sponsors and little for the sanction bodies.

Even the Unlimited Hydorplane racing series are continually seeking a savior : H1 Unlimited Begins Pursuit For Resilient Change

I guess we will have to wait and see what approach RWO has in mind for the future. So far we know it will be canopy boats only, looks like 5 classes right now. Hopefully a firm schedule will be out soon. Hasn't been mention of how much prize purchase will be it travel money. Still alot of ground work to been done, for the up coming season. The way it looks with 3 schedule out should be plenty of racing.

No, the HORBA race that was Miami to Bimini and back.

The OPA race was all in Bimini up and down a beach over there.

By what metric was it popular? The plural of anecdote is not data.

The late Larry Goldman and his longtime friend Brad Schoenwald worked their tails off to revive the Bimini-Miami-Bimini race in 2011, https://speedonthewater.com/in-the-n...-isles-survive. Unfortunately, it didn't succeed. The support on all levels, from participants to backers, simply wasn't there. I could be wrong—I've been wrong before—but I don't think anything's changed.

The OPA Resorts World Bimini event, on the other hand, has an excellent chance of surviving in my view. Yes, it's a near-shore race, but it happens in a spectacular venue that, at least for a foreign country, isn't that hard to access.
