How long by boat pompano to miami

Inside by intracoastal? So many idle zone it must be a couple hours run, right?

Unlimited jd 01-11-2018 06:39 AM

Why not go outside? Just about an hour from lighthouse point to government cut at cruise. Prob 3 hours going through the no wake zones.

Jupiter Sunsation 01-11-2018 07:19 AM

The last time I was in Broward some of the no wake zones were only active on weekends but on weekdays it was a 25 mph zone. Maybe someone local can verify if they still have it that way.

Unlimited jd 01-11-2018 07:27 AM

Not sure on days and time but there are minimum wake planing speed zones, and no wake zones. I'll be there tomorrow and will look

302Sport 01-11-2018 07:34 AM

From the Lighthouse Point inlet, Haulover is about 25 miles and Government Cut is about 35 miles. I would run the outside unless the seas are absolutely terrible, and then if that's the case, I would get in my car and drive. The no wake zones from Boca, down to Miami make the inside ride horrible.

I grew up in Boca, when I first got on the water there the only "No Wake" was from the Palmetto Bridge to the Camino Bridge (essentially Lake Boca). You could run from Palmetto bridge north to the Delray line wide open (there was a marina in Delray so it was no wake). I knew a kid in high school that ran his dad's Top Gun WFO from Camino bridge south right into Royal Palm (dad was a blockbuster video/ waste management founder). Several fast boats in the area back then, the owner of the Bridge Hotel (right on the west side of the inlet) kept a 50 Wellcraft Meteor on a lift. Maybe someone will remember the name of it, it was there for years. I think it was named "the Duke"

I could remember hearing big I/O stuff taking off from the Camino bridge and looking down that long narrow channel (ICW is super narrow there) and seeing them come but you always heard them first!

go on the outside as stated above , I have been both way's a number of times , just cruise a half mile or so offshore and then head south , takes less then an our at 50 to 60 mph cruise and if your running the Sonic then you will have no problem unless it's 6 to 8 's or bigger :)

I ran my 38 sonic all the time on that run , if it's flat then it makes for a boring ride " anything under 3 footers :)

i was just trying to rent an open bow to go to miami from boynton, but they would not let us go outside for insurance, but i still wanted to go to miami. that is why i was asking how long from inside. they rent from 10 am to 4 pm so that was not enough according to my guess...

so seems like a 3 hours run inside. might have to rent closer to miami to make it in their time lines...

or bring down the sonic!

Thanks for your answers!

Weekdays and weekends are different. Weekends, I believe it is ALL no wake. Weekdays, there are a few places you can run on plane at 25 or 35mph.

gmhdfan 01-11-2018 06:49 PM

There is a place in Hollywood just south of Dania Beach Blvd @ A1A and Franklin St. Google map it and might get a business name to call. They rent bowriders and its not to bad of a trip to Miami or Ft Lauderdale from there.

During “Manatee season” (November 15th-March 31st) weekends are all no wake between Boca-Fort Lauderdale. You can run 25mph from 7am-7pm during weekdays (holidays excluded). During non manatee season you can run 25mph basically up and down the ICW (going through the bridges you must idle).

Water Patrol has radar (ask me how I know)

Why Miami?

If you are in Boynton go to Peanut Island and Jupiter inlet.... Who you trying to impress?

Start at Key Lime house. 200 yards
Go back to 2 Georges, then up to Peanut Island and hit Sailfish Marina then make the ride to Square Grouper.

The intercoastal after Ft Lauderdale isnt picturesque...

because the manatees only go for a cruise on the weekends....

who im trying to impress is a good question! :) because i have actually not even asked myself the question ever if i wanted to impress anyone! And who can i impress with a small bowrider boat driving idle in the ICW?

the answer is quite simple ! Because my kids wants to go there and see the area by boat!

on the other hand, i will definatly put your suggestion on my boating to do list! Thanks for the heads up!

Drive south and rent a boat - start in Hollywood or Ft Lauderdale to go to Miami. it will save 4 hours. I dont think you can do Miami round trip in a day/8 hours.

Seriously, I understand the mystique of Miami but the ride is just as impressive going north from Boynton. You can pass Donald Trumps winter white house, several marinas with 170 ft yachts, JFK's Nuclear shelter (Peanut Island), Tider Woods House, Tiger Woods wifes house, Tiger Woods girlfriends house, Tiger Woods mistress house and a few hedge-fund managers houses valued over $80 million+....

Elin's house is oceanfront.....can't see it from the ICW
Tigers compound is so packed with landscaping you really can't see anything from the water.
I have been at both properties as a guest

cowisl 01-13-2018 08:18 AM

The water gets nicer as you head south

Excess 01-13-2018 09:43 AM

How long are you staying there Jeff ? I'll be down in a few weeks. My condo is in boynton at marina village where the 2 george restaurant is.

jeff32 01-13-2018 02:50 PM

Geez... i was there for christmas!
asking questions for next time! Will let you know!

Unlimited jd 01-13-2018 03:34 PM

Ft lauderdale police were kind enough to inform me that it is minimum wake, and under 25 mph anywhere in the icw from November to April 14th, except for the idle no wake zones.

jeff32 01-14-2018 07:18 AM

Most boat don t plane at 25 mph... easier to say idle zone then...

Unlimited jd 01-14-2018 11:36 AM

Pontoon boats and stuff like that, pretty much in those areas you can run up to 25 mph as long as the wake is less than 15" big pia

2nd that one. It's a looooong ride from Hollywood to Miami. Did it once by choice, then once when we lost a motor, after you do it once, you'll probably not want to do it again. Good sight seeing though.

frickstyle 01-15-2018 10:37 AM

Also, stayed at Miami beach marina for new years, that place is pretty cool, you can rent bikes and tool around the island/South Beach.
