Ken-Bar is about 12 miles (by road) to Buzzard Rock and another couple miles further to Hu-B's - both in Kuttawa. You should check one or both of them out.

,.,,but don't get your hopes up, we're just a bunch of hillbillies around here!! lol

Thank everybody for the help and Joe I will be calling you tomorrow if that is OK.
Here is the current plan, always subject to change! Have a room booked for me and a buddy at Ken-Bar and told I have a slip at Kentucky Dam marina.
I did this over the weekend because I needed to have a starting plan, all is refundable at this time. The hotel is literally across the street from the marina, so I am told, which has it's attributes. Moon chart sez full moon weekend so night navigating between marinas should be fairly easy, please correct me if I am wrong.
Looks like a fish fry on Sat. and many intros through-out the weekend.
I am really looking forward to the weekend. It has been several years since I did boating vacations and can not wait. Tomorrow will be a test of my underpowered tow vehicle (Suburban just blew up) to the local lake and shakedown cruse for the boat.
Any / All info is great and thank you all, keep it coming.
Gary

Oh, those markers - I've never come even close to taking one of those out! ...channel marker buoys are another story for another time.

When the lake is low I have seen kids walk across the upper supports that are just underwater. There was a guy some years ago that tried to cut through there and got stuck between the supports of the bridge. Somehow they were able to get him out without much damage to his boat. If you look up on the old maps before the lake was flooded, you can see the roadway and bridge that is now under water. Just stay within the channel markers and you will be fine, the main lake is well marked and anywhere you need to go to get into a marina will be well marked. If you want to get into a cove, it is best to follow someone who knows how on the Barkley side.

Well I made it to the lake/s. What a beautiful place to boat. It had been awhile since I did any open water boating so re-learning spotting and chasing buoys was interesting. All of the advice was spot on. Incredibly friendly people at the marinas and boats. I enjoyed meeting some of the OSO’ers and look forward to meeting more on my next visit. Boat is resting in it’s new home in Eddyville at the storage facility. I almost made it back to Houston uneventful but a deer 65 miles from home made sure there was additional drama. Truck going to the shop in a week or two for repair, damn the luck. I hope to return for the poker run in June for another week or so. Thanks again for all of the help and I really enjoyed meeting with some OSO’ers and look forward to meeting and boating with many others.Gary

Enjoyed meeting you on the Dock at Buzzard Rock over the weekend Gary. I noticed you said you stayed at Ken Bar lodge not sure if you plan to stay on that side of the lake going forward but if so I would recommend the Bel-Air which is just down the road they have cabins behind the main hotel that we stayed in for years before buying a place, they are small and basic but clean and great for weekends. If you want to stay closer to your boat in Eddyville the Relax Inn which you probably saw is where my family members alway stay great rates and cleans room. Book ahead as they will fill up on the Holiday weekends.

It was nice meeting you and your dad. I will be staying on the Eddyville side the Ken Bar was ok but will not my regular stay place. I will try the Relax Inn, thanks for the tip.
I am trying yo put together another trip for the poker run. Hitting the deer on the way home has put some snags as nobody near the lake rents trucks for launch/retrieve. I am working on a couple of options and hope to get it sorted. Thanks again and what a great boating area.

Talk to Eddy Creek marina if your boat is close. I know they have dry storage facility on site and have a truck that they will put customers boats in with. They dropped in my buddies new sunsation center console two weeks ago for him.

Glad you enjoyed the lake. We got lucky with perfect weather Saturday, Sunday and part of Monday! What all did you get to visit?
