Default Octane requirements Verado 400R Europe

Hi,

I hope you all are well.

I replaced my Verado 350 Sci with a new Verado 400R last summer. I am very happy with it. I gained 5 mph, and with a better prop, hopefully 2 mph more this summer.

In US the 400R require 91 octane, which roughly corresponds to 98RON in Europe. Running lower octance corresponds to less horsepower. Thats all good. However, in the EU the engine manual reads that 95RON is sufficent. But on the Mercury website (Norwegian one) it states that both 350 and 400 need 91 US octane (98RON) to make full power.

I ran 95RON all last summer. Its ofcourse easy, just try 98RON and see if the boats pulls harder and runs faster. But it would be great to know either way what is the correct octane to get full power.

Thanks !

Cheeers, Toffen

Toffen, You may want to contact an EU branch of Mercury. The EU emissions mandates may have created different mapping and they will verify what fuel you want.

Spending a fair amount in Germany, not all fuels are quality so we opt for the higher grades when feasible ( availability at the pumps and $$$$)

91 Octane US is exact like 96 Octane Gas in Europe,!
Here lowest is 95 Octane Euro available! Merc say its no problem with the gas in europa, call SUPER or EUROSUPER 95!!
You can run in Europe 98 Octane SUPER PLUS but need not!
