Kilo Boat Sterling Engines - Need Info
 

Just wondering about those monster 1,900 hp engines that were in the latest Fountain kilo boat. Are they push-rod BBC Chevy based? What kind of cubic inches? What kind of price point for them? Any info? Speculation is OK. Thanks.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...5e056e320d.jpg

Matt had an article with some of the information back on 2-22-18....they are 557's. Maybe you could call the shop for pricing if you are in the market.

They are way out of my league! I'm just curious about them. How much power can be squeezed out of an engine this size? At what point does it compare to the cost of rigging with turbines?

I got to play around in Vern Gilbert's engine bay last summer at Lake Cumberland. He has a pair of 2100hp, chevy based, pushrod engines built by Carson Brummit. They are works of art and almost every piece bolted to the block was a custom 1 off piece. I would hate to speculate on price, but I would guess over 100K each.

2100 hp is nuts!! Aren't the new Merc Racing engines over 100 grand? Anything that has to burn racing fuel is out for me. I love my 87 octane friendly 525! :)

I heard they were $350,000. I don't know if that was each or both.

I did read that the Merc Racing 1,550 engine/drive package was $200,000 each! So what does it cost to rig a boat with twin turbines? Then you can burn cheaper fuel (I think), have a simpler and more durable engine with longer service intervals, have more power and have the ultra cool factor of turbines.

Cheaper per gallon but not cheaper per consumption hour... T-55's burn about 5 gallons per engine per minute at 100% l power and almost the same at idle

You pay for HP or you pay - no way around it
