I hope the new guy is a racing fan. IMO Merc has dropped the ball on its racing involvement. For a company thats brand is racing motors but doesn't support racing is just crazy IMO. Get a new race hauler and come back out please.

Just for the record, that trend started long before Erik Christiansen took the reins at Mercury Racing. The final straw, at least in the Mercury Racing view, was the announcement that GM Vortec engines were being adopted into the then APBA Offshore LLC class. I believe that was in 2001.

As for Mercury Racing's lack of involvement in racing (and I'm guessing you're talking about offshore racing), while I'm sure it seems "just crazy" to racers, I'm also sure that's purely a business decision. At least in the QC4v series and with the Verado 400R outboard, the company is having no trouble moving product without supporting the sport. Far more of those engines are used in high-performance pleasure applications than in offshore raceboats. So while you (and I) might like to see Mercury Racing back in the game as a big sponsor of the sport, it's probably (and no fan will enjoy hearing this) a good business decision for the company.
