NASCAT 06-04-2018 01:50 PM

If your boat is in production over Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years that inherently is going to result in delays. Prep for the Miami Boat Show would be another contributing factor.
Ask me how I know :party-smiley-004:

Ran C 06-04-2018 01:53 PM

Ok,how do you know?

NASCAT 06-04-2018 02:00 PM

B/C I built two 34's one that went in the mold in Oct 2014 and finished in April of 2015 as a 2015 & another that started in May of 2016 & completed in Oct 2016 as a 2017 model.
I currently hold a 2019 390 production slot that is approx 7 weeks out.

Ran C 06-04-2018 02:05 PM

Yes I see. With reading that I'am sure your right. Good luck on your new build. Thanks for your info.

NASCAT 06-04-2018 02:11 PM

I don't know that I'm right just sharing my personal experiences. I think everyone's build is going to be a bit different and timing is everything whether that be parts availability, an approaching hurricane or holidays.
IMO 4-5 mos is the typical build time but most want their boats for summer. Ordering a boat mid summer might equate to a quicker build out.

Mentalpause 06-04-2018 02:33 PM

I'm at 16 weeks since ordering my 400s upgrade, and they have not shipped yet. Hopefully next week. When originally ordered, Merc set the ship date at 5/13, 13 weeks. I'm just bringing this up because most builders order engines anticipating an arrival date. If that date is elongated by a month, it could impact boat delivery. But I also assume it would mostly be an issue when wait times are transitioning, like they did this spring. If the new wait times are closer to 4 months than 3 months, then builders will take that into consideration when deciding what date to order the engines.

It does make the buyer lock into an engine choice a bit earlier in the process though.

Are you telling us the 34 NT's only last 2 years?

Looks great!
Did you have the factory apply the Sea Dek, or have someone do it after completion?

Mando 06-22-2018 08:40 AM

Sea Dek

was suppose to be done at factory. Material was back ordered. Had it installed by a local guy. He did a great job.

JaxBoiler 06-22-2018 09:09 AM

I’ve been torn on adding Sea Dek to my order, never had it on a boat I’ve owned before. Yours looks outstanding, think it swung my decision.
Any downside that you can think of?

No Sir, I'm telling you that my work schedule made owning a boat difficult to justify, then I experienced a severe case of " I wish I had thought of / done that differently" and I was fortunate enough to be introduced to someone that was interested in my boat which left us both smiling.

I typically bring my boats back to Ft Myers Thanksgiving and leave them for a few months. I was contemplating a 390, SportBoats Marine called me one day and said he may have a buyer for my 2017 & the rest was history.

I've had good success leaving late model boats w/ John Kray @ SportBoats Marine as he's just 20mins from NT. I'm the perfect seller for the buyer who rather not wait to have one built.
This is the reason I try to keep the colors neutral and timeless.

NASCAT 06-22-2018 09:32 AM

Mando- Congrats on the completion and receipt of your boat. Your selections have resulted in a very clean looking boat, I know you are going to enjoy it.

Mando 06-22-2018 09:58 AM

Thanks nascat. And I am enjoying it. Jaxboiler this is my first boat with it. Love it. Very easy to clean. Cushions your feet. I would have got thicker at the helm for feet comfort. Cannot ad pads on top of sea Dek. Very slippery. Warm in hot sun but not terrible. Important when it’s installed to have all the lines from now to stern line up. Guy who installed mine was better than factory SeaDek has computer scan for
not tech 340. U can do it after if u want. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...31f8c28b7.jpeghttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ff94f0e4d.jpeg

Randy Kent has a ton of those covers on LOTO. My first one was on a 2008 350 SS Formula. Have one on my 340. All of them on LOTO are under cover vs in the sun all day. I know he is selling a ton of them in Fl like yours. Mine on the formula was still in great shape after 6 years. And mine over the 340 is now about 5 years old, and still in great shape. be interesting to see how they hold up in full sun vs under covered docks. They are awesome covers.

Mando 10-18-2018 07:47 PM

Covers

Mine is new as of June of this year. Was wondering how it would hold up. Have u ever waterproofed again? I had mildew inside the cover cleaned it with a remover and sprayed it with one shot mildew preventer. Has been fine since

Never water proofed it again. Since we are under cover that is not a problem. Also never got enough mildew inside to worry about it. Minor mildew on the inside of the cover started showing glimpses after 3-4 years here, and a little mildew spray takes care of that. My guess is it is around a decade cover here after seeing where my 350 cover was after 6 years, and where my 340 cover is going on 5 years. But I'm betting in full sun you won't get that. If you are getting a lot of moisture causing mildew you may want to keep a fan going underneath, or maybe a few buckets full of charcoal.

Mando 10-18-2018 08:15 PM

Great idea with the fan and charcoal !! Done deal thanks.

I live on Turkey Point Island and I see you live down by RR Marina, Germantown Rd I suspect.
I have a Blue 39' on the South River, surprised I haven't run into you this summer.
Congrats boat looks great. I would be interested to see how that cover works with the track system, I just had a full cover made for mine and it's 2 piece and a ***** to put on by yourself.
Hope to meet you ,

Question??

Looking to get into my first CC and am considering a NT 340 with 350 Mercs.
Anything I need to know or be aware of on a purchase like this? Are there any motor issues I should be aware of?
Thanks!!

Yep, saw it...very nice boat! I would like to have a conversation with you if you are up to it. I have some questions in regards to a purchase. 586-980-0999

JaxBoiler - Do you still have your Nortech 340? After owning it for some time, did you ever regret going with the 340 vs. 390? I am not at all concerned about maxing out top speed. 75mph is all I need as this is a boat I will normally have family and friends on. Just want to be able to cruise at much higher speeds in the 50-60 range realistically vs. the 35-40 range I can do now on my Cobia 280 DC w Twin F250s. (just sold last week).

Interested in anyone else's opinions on the handling / inside feel differences between the two boats. Bow and cabin space seems almost identical. The second row helm seat would be really nice for my situation, but I am not sure it is worth the trade off in price, more difficulty trailering, fuel burn, and somewhat harder maneuvering around docks / coves, etc.

NASCAT 10-08-2020 09:06 AM

SilverTT,

I've owned 2 NT 340's w/ triple 350's & then a 390 w/ the same power.
There was no regret purchasing either 340 but as I started to use my boat more offshore (Bahamas Trips) I realized how small it felt at times. Lets face it it doesn't take much for the ocean or gulf to kick up & a 50' boat feel small but the 390 was definitely a better rough water capable boat and better balanced.
I lost 5-6mph top end going to the larger boat w/ the same power but it was insignificant.

The ride quality of the 390 is noticeably different than the 340 but that's not implying the 340 is a slouch by any means.
My boat had the larger top, club sport rear seat, 3rd row & bow U-shape seat w/ seat backs.
Helm & cabin are identical between both boats.
IMO the cabin is the weakness of the otherwise superior Nor-Tech CC, it's smaller than most of the other CC cabins and lacks amenities found among it's competitors.

Didn't really notice a difference maneuverability wise as long as you have a bow thruster.

Getting up to speed from a stop is a bit more noticeable when towing but once at speed no big deal.
I towed w/ a 2017 GMC Denali 3500 & it was plenty capable, make sure you have a GOOD trailer w/ GOOD brakes.

SilverTT 10-08-2020 01:08 PM

NASCAT - Incredibly helpful, thank you. Exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for to help with decision. As for my boating location and style, we are going to be in Long Island Sound 95% of the time. If not familiar with the area we see pretty flat water most of the time but does kick up into 2-3ft range maybe 2 out of 7 days, though usually not for the whole day. You typically do not have to drive in that water if don't want but would think 340 should handle fine anyway. If it was 3-5ft I would not go out or certainly not go far at high speeds. We will also do an occassional trip to Montauk or NYC from where we are in CT but again would plan for nicer days and just not go if the weather is not great (also plenty of harbor marinas / coves to stop along way if necessary). I do want the boat to feel like a sportscar / drivers boat as much as possible which is why I am leaning towards the 340 though I know the 390s are incredible as well.

If you are not in rough water (certainly Bahamas Trips would qualify) and you don't need the second row helm seat and you really want the boat to feel fun / nimble / responsive, would you say the 340 is the way to go?

JaxBoiler 10-08-2020 01:28 PM

SilverTT,
I sold my NT earlier this year. Loved the boat, only had a few minor things I would gripe about (mostly pump access in the cabin)

It was very capable in big water, sounds like it would be a great boat for your needs.

NT did have a 340 at the Miami show with a second row of helm seats. Was crowded in the cockpit area, but probably more useful than the sliding cooler seat in my opinion.
None of my crew wanted to sit or kneel on that cooler for Bahamas trips or other long rides.

I grew up in Rye & Harrison, got all my boating experience on the Long Island Sound as a kid so very familiar.
We had a 23' Formula w/ OMC I/O, made many a day trip to Montauk, Cos Cob etc. Very few towards NYC.
A NT 340 is plenty capable of a boat for the type of boating you wish to do.
I don't think you want 2nd row on a 340, I know they built one but makes the stern cockpit area very cramped.

We were caught in foul weather both Bahamas trips, the first in the 340 from Nassau back to Pompano, had 4 on board only room for 3 to be protected at the helm. My buddy & I rotated sitting on the cooler sucked up under the top as best we could.

The next time was in the 390, torrential downpour on the way to Abaco's.
Was nice to seat 6 safely in the 2 rows everyone w/ wind & rain protection.

I'm not sure if you are considering new or used but you need to get yourself out on a 340, either a boat show demo or through your local dealer.
I purchased all 3 of mine from SportBoats Marine in Fort Myers.
Excellent buying experiences x3.

Mentalpause 10-08-2020 01:43 PM

Had Waves and Wheels replace my slide out cooler on my 34 with this. Footrest raises and lowers electrically. Girls love this seat. Would be a nice option fot NT to add to their option list.

Sobo was aware at the time and interested in how it turned out but right about the middle of the project was when he left NT, so I doubt anyone at NT is aware of it. If I built a new 340 I'd incorporate a lot of the innovation you did with them, plus try to talk them into this rear facing seat option. I bet a number of 340 buyers would opt for it. My wife likes sitting in that seat more than the front bolsters. And oddly enough you get decent wind protection there too.
