340 are fantastic boats. Have 2018 trip 350s. Smooth running. Had it on the Chesapeake bay moving to
Cape Coral. I have no complaints at all . |
Thanks again, really helpful feedback. MentalPause - that rear seat is awesome, thanks for adding those pics.
Big decision so want to get it right for sure. We have 3 young kids (6, 4, 3) and they love the boat, love sitting at the helm or up front when its calm out. My only real concern with the 340 is if it gets really windy or a down pour and you have a bit of a trip home. I was thinking of building a seat like the Pursuit 328 cabin (below) even just for sitting around not moving if the kids want to go down and watch a show or take a nap. This looks like it could even be used under way though I imagine no one really goes into the cabin while the boat is moving? Thinking purely to get out of the weather and at 20-30mph might not be that bad for the kids...but haven't been on a 340 so not sure if that makes sense. Trying to post a pic...but I don't have 10 posts yet. Its a pic of the Pursuit 328 cabin, looks pretty nice. |
If you do a google image search for "pursuit 328 cabin south shore marine" it will show up about half way down page
|
Weather /rain in my opinion is always a problem
when it rains. I have been out more times than I wanted to be in rain. Fewer people more people dry more people on the boat the more wet people. Lol. that's a center console !!! |

I ended up going with the 39 because I wanted the extra room on board, the bow is larger, although sun lounge seat is identical on both 34 and 39. Also plenty more room aft. I dont think the 34 with two rows is worth as you'll have absolutely no room between the rear seating and the cooler. In terms of handling the 34 definitely rides more like a 911 GT3 in my opinion, very nimble and responsive and you are much more a "driver" in the 34 vs the 39. I also fish in the gulf so the 39 has handled the occasional, unforeseen, 5-6 footers which is not fun in any boat. The price points for 34 is also really nice especially a used 2018 with trip 350's as there are many out there. I purchased from Bob @ soflo boats and he often has many more boats "available" than the internet has you believe is out there. You can email him at [email protected], great to work with and will hustle looking for your boat, new or used.
|
Also, the cabin is definitely lacking in this category of CC's however, for kids its perfect to turn on the AC and have them take a nap.
I tow my 39 with trips with a 2020 Ram 2500 on an Evolution triple axle trailer. Never had an issue. |
What about twins v trips on the 34? I know speed but we mostly will be lake time and would rather have more room on the transom to swim off of.
Will the twins be that much slower? Im about done with speed anyway lol |
Twins will certainly perform ok. However resale will fall far below a trip boat.
min my opinion you may like twins but the majority of buyers want trips. bad financial decision. |

ive always been told, and frankly see the point that a triple 34 will always provide more resale. a Trip 350 340 Nortech seems to be the best bang for your buck. triple 400's is powerful
This past weekend we saw the 34 with quad 300 V8 Mercs and I personally think it was to stern heavy. Whole boat was out of the water (perhaps driver induced) however, I think the triple 350 is perfect. Twins is tough resale and while will get you on plane and up to speed it is not ideal for a Nortech. The price point for a used 340 with trip 350s is great. Thats what I would put my money on. |
Out of 4 personal 34 s, my favorite is the quad 300 v8, it's super quick and responsive, perfect attitude and stable, acceleration is amazing, you are gone before the next guy gets on plane,if your budget allowed, this is the "new" way. Having the exact boat build as we speak, put 90 hrs on it in 4 months, the new owner added,120 hrs, needless to say, we love this st up.
as for used 34 s, all engine options are good, pick the one you can afford ,in the cleanest, best maintained shape,350-400s all good. |
My wife and I bought the 2020 340 Nor-Tech with quad 300 V8s in May and absolutely love the boat! It has amazing acceleration and handling and rips out of the hole. No signs of being stern heavy- if anything I had the boat overtrimmed when I passed you GatorMD! When you fire up 4 (!) V8 engines with the sport exhaust open and it roars to life that makes it for me--I wanted to be on the new V8 platform.
The truth is you can't go wrong with any of the Nor-Techs they have the best design/build quality and performance in the industry and have great customer service to back it up. For us we wanted something that ticked off the sport boat factor and can haul the family. We also have three kids 3,4 and 6 and it fits the bill perfectly. We have had up 3 families (15 people-mostly kids) and still had plenty of space yet it fits in easier at tight docks and slips that 5 more feet would be that much tougher to get in or not fit in at all. I love the 390 as well-especially with the 2nd row seat option-- but for us we have plenty of space and I prefer the look and overall muscle/sport boat feel of the quad 340! |
Gator, yours was the blue one with the Gators flag at the Tampa run correct?
|
[QUOTE=TTLambo;4761502] No signs of being stern heavy- if anything I had the boat overtrimmed when I passed you GatorMD!
hahaha you got me there man, you guys were running that thing hard! I thought It was more of weight distribution on the smaller 34. But, there you have it. As you can see we all have our opinions on the "best" package! With regards to the OP, the used 34 market with triple 350s is strong and plenty fast. I would ask if the new 34 with quad V8 300 but is cheaper than 34 with 400R? TT- hopefully my motors are all running for Key west!! see you there man! |
nate- yea that was me!

Getting a home in Cape Coral and have a 34 Nortech which I posted on here. Was wondering
if there are groups of Nortech owners in the area. Where does the Florida keys trip start from. We will be new to boating in the Florida area. Always did our boating on the chesepeske bay. Thanks for any info |

Meant to come over and say hello but it was a crazy blurr of fun. Also you got that flag attached well lol....you passed us a few times at good speed with it hanging in there. Go Gators! |
that GemLux flag pole is rated at 80+ . Flag is replaced every run and whole team for that run signs the flag!
above all else...Go Gators!!! |

I agree. I am a sterndrive guy and before we purchased the boat we have now I test drove a 34 CC Nor Tech. I was in love with the boat until we drove it. This boat had 450s on it and was fast but the persons sitting on the outside seating on the bench seat was a scary ride for sure. No armrests to hold you in. Then we slowed and turned the boat around and went the opposite way we just came from and the props were blowing out just going over a small wake. So I guess it depends on what kind of boating/family activity you are planning on but based on that ride and the type of boating we do It defiantly wasn't for me. Defiantly not sh?tting on Nor-tech as they are an awesome boat company.

This is awesome feedback TTLambo...thank you. Curious how the top end and mpg change when going from triple 300 V8s to quad 300 V8s? Not sure we really need the extra top end, but the acceleration and idea that the boat has more power for when you have a lot of people on board is appealing. Also curious to learn what Mercury has planned for the new 300Rs they appear to be close to announcing. We have a build slot now and currently thinking triple 300 V8s, but could be convinced to go with quads! One question, how is the back transom space / ability to get on/off swim platform impacted with quads vs. triples on a 340?
SilverTT, I dont have any first hand experience on the the triple 300 V8 340 boat, I believe I read low to mid 70s but don't quote me. Where as the quads low 80s. One of my good friends has a triple 300 I6 Verado and its realistically mid to upper 60s when we are out. That boat is a 2013 and is one of the reasons why I bought a Nor-Tech - it is in such good shape after 7 years, the quality really shows when you look at the shape and condition of the older Nor-Techs is really impressive. Regarding getting on the boat from the stern its tight back there for sure with 4 engines but its no big deal- my whole family has no problems same with our guests, although one of my wive's friend had a wardrobe malfunction with her bikini, wasn't such a bad view lol! Maybe that is one area where the 390 with the dive door would be nice, but personally its not something that's a big deal to us. I also really like the club sport seating that closes the rear of the boat off with little kids that is a huge plus for us and adds the extra seating. I personally think the extra money for quads is worth it over the triple 300s, the acceleration general badassness and uniqueness is awesome! Regarding the 300Rs --that is the only thing I would change on the boat, I would love to have the extra 400 rpm and the sportmaster lowers would be great for ultimate top speed but mercury doesn't build the 300R with the AMS midsection and the verado style powersteering/trim. They are supposed to come out with it but I certainly would not give up a season of boating waiting for them! |

Orange quattro I completely disagree. Which 450 340 boat were you on? I know for sure there are no quad 450 340s. The only 450 340 Nor-Tech I know of is a triple 450 boat that is in Canada. I had put in an offer on his old 2016 Triple 400 boat, beautiful boat!. I can tell you that I have absolutely zero issues with blowing out on my boat. Absolutely zero, granted I will say that my engines are not as high as some that I have seen. I have seen some with two bolt holes exposed above transom, the top of the engine brackets are about level on mine. If you want to rig the boat for ultimate top speed you just have to drive it appropriately. I probably could pick up some top speed by raising them but the acceleration and handling are so awesome as is I don't want to mess with it! I feel very safe while operating my boat with my family and Nor-Tech Hulls are some of the best and safest hulls in the industry and certainly have a proven track record to show for it! |

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but any of you NT owners have experience with the type of cover that looks like spandex and it is stretchy? I saw it on the site here on a Nortech. I have a photo but need another 4 posts before I can add the picture. Would like to get some information / price quotes?
We have a 340 NT arriving late Summer and think this may be the best option for us as we plan to dry dock the boat and would like a one piece "easy" cover to install that is wind resistant and does not require 300 snaps to put on / take off. Any advice or even pointing in right direction would be helpful. |

looking for some help had a 2018 nortech 340 trip 350s traded last march for a 2022 340 trip 400s still dont have it nortech has suggested trip 300 R instead they say 400s are hard to get any thoughts
|
450's!!
|
460s.
few people have done 450s. trips are over powered almost impossible to get insurance
|
A 340 with trip 400’s is overkill. Buddy has a 390 with trip 400’s and that is a great pairing. I’d say go for it with trip 300 R’s.

Very informative thread. Thanks for the info.
A 34 is going to be my next boat. Just not sure when yet. Had a pretty good real estate investment come up so we will see when. But one of my slips is empty and that can't last toooo long :evilb: |
One question i do have-- the spec's say 10' beam on these. Has anyone ever measured it? Is that exactly 10'? My dock door opening is 10'1" lol. Probably going to have to widen it.
|
I haven't put a measuring tape on it, but suspect 10' is pretty much on. I put mine in a 12 wide slip at LOTO and it is tight pulling in by the time you figure the purlins are 2" wide on each side of the slip and another inch or so for the bumpers that cover the purlins. That makes the actual space between the bumper covered purlins on each side about 11.5 feet on a 12 foot slip.
|
Quick question for you guys with Mercury Racing 300R V8s on your Nortech. Pretty new engine setup, think mine is one of the first, but curious if you know the correct oil pressure range for the 300R at idle, planing/accelerating, and cruise?
