As for the mentioned great white shark nursery, juvinile whites eat fish. On the other coast San Diego is a well known area for juvi whites and I only remember one attack. Now up in northern Cali where the big guys live is a different story. When I was in Cali I walked down to the beach, looked out at the water and made a deal.... You don't eat me, I won't eat you, thus I don't eat seafood. I do remember being on a jetski just outside the kelp beds and seeing something swim under me that was much bigger than my jetski though.

My wife has been a serious strong open water swimmer all her life, she will swim miles in offshore open water both salt or fresh. She's had things bump into her in the ocean, been stung by jellyfish and other odd events. This year she's flying to Palau which is south of Guam to snorkel for ten days. She loves the experience and accepts the risks, can you argue that ?
We recently sold our boat and I proclaimed here on OSO we're out of boating, it's time. Well she kept on me so a couple days ago I bought a small C.C. so she can go swimming offshore.

It is their world and we are the bottom of the food chain ... but odds of getting hurt are tiny. Go in first with a mask on ... if there is heavy bait in the water or it is murky wait a while before tossing in the kids....otherwise, enjoy!
