Boat Pix copter down in PCB

People staying at my condo in Panama City Beach have texted me pictures of a “Boat Pix.com” copter down in the surf by my condo

thedonz 05-02-2018 05:18 PM

Damn, hope everyone is OK

ResQme 05-02-2018 05:25 PM

Trying to get more info will update if I find anything out

phragle 05-02-2018 05:27 PM

UPDATE: Pilot of overturned helicopter taken to hospital

ResQme 05-02-2018 05:30 PM

This not confirmed but , story goes pilot made emergency landing in the surf which flipped the copter pilot transported but expected to OK passenger no injuries

thirdchildhood 05-03-2018 05:26 AM

I figured drones would have put them out of business by now.

Knot 4 Me 05-03-2018 06:41 AM

Glad everyone is OK. I will be down there on the beach in 10 days!

racinfast002 05-03-2018 07:17 AM

oh no that's not good. Glad everyone is relatively ok.

Nate5.0 05-03-2018 07:51 AM

They get pretty damn low.

We had one circling us 2 weeks ago, he couldn't have been but just a few feet above us and there was a couple turns where it looked like he was coming down.

You're not kidding! We just got a thing in the mail from them this week from when they took our picture at Gasparilla. They got low enough a few times I think if they'd have banked hard the rotors would have caught water. Hope everyone is ok!

Hate that I missed Gasparilla this year.....ugh.

We took the new boat to Caladesi and he was there circling us and at times couldn't have been more than 10' off the water when circling around to shoot again.

She'll do for a while. Has a lot of seating on the boat, rides nice, easy to get around, and needs nothing. Happy overall for the time being.

Knot 4 Me 05-04-2018 08:38 AM

I'm making my way down to FLA for good here in about 5 years and I'd be tickled pink with something like that!

It's perfect for around here, big thing was being able to ride the gulf as the last Pathfinder we had didn't like the outside area. This on is just fine and rides better than I thought it would.

Of course I want bigger or more like a 35' Statement but maybe another day later down the road, not in those ranges just yet. I will settle with riding on them a lot for now lol.

Wanting to be around this area or more south like Ft. Myers/Naples?

Wildman_grafix 05-04-2018 09:36 AM

Nice Nate, everglades are proud of there boats!

And made over here,,,,,,, one of the guys on our old dock in Indiana has a son that is a ME there. Or was a couple years back anyway, lost contact with most of those. If US1 see's this thread he would know better.

They ride like they are proud of the build. It is really tight, good fit and finish, and a unexpected smooth ride which I didn't think we would get in a boat of that size. Also really like that there is a lot of comfort and not all fish on it. Have two folding rear bench seats, the captains helm, a front seat, and the entire wrap around it padded and turns into a nice sun lounge. We don't fish at all and this think is still great for us.

Could it accept twins or too small? Nice boat!

They would have to be twin 150's and I think yes. Anything more I feel might be too big and heavy for this boat.

CJSYD 05-04-2018 04:49 PM

Glad to hear the pilot and pass will be ok.

Boat looks great Nate!

Bob Dougherty founded Edgewater (later sold) and Everglades after running Boston Whaler for 20+ years. The 243 Everglades was an iconic design and Nate's 223 is basically the same boat without the enclosed head in the console. They are weight sensitive and they have had issues with sinking (open scuppers) when overloaded so definitely NO TWINS! They came out with a 273 (similar design 3 ft bigger) and it will do twins.

Bob died a couple years back and Everglades was sold to an investor group. His son Steve ran the company with him and is still making fiberglass products but they are more like accessories than actual boats. If you bought Nate's boat new in 2004 it was about 40-45K brand new and it is probably worth 85% of that today because a new 243 with a single 300 is like 100K!

I got a few facts wrong, he was with whaler for over 30+ years. I said the scupper issue sinks the boats, well they won't actually sink but rather capsize would have been a better term to use. The 211 had the issue the worst, they take on water and roll at the dock.

I don't know how their "business model" hasn't put them out of business...

I had trouble with them years ago trying to buy some pics of my boat. Their photo editing was horrible. Once the big shot got involved They got it right and I bought 3 pics of my boat for $700. Now you can get good action shots with a drone.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...98fddfb000.jpg

Sarasota would be about as far South as I'd go. I've been going to the panhandle since the 70's and being from the Midwest I wouldn't hate still having a change of seasons so right now Pensacola has my interest from a house/lot size for the money perspective.

You can tell your friends and family you retired to LA.......lower Alabama! :D

I don't see near as many jacked up 4x4's flying confederate flags as I used to but you still get them cruising up and down Front Beach Rd in PCB occasionally.

My buddy lives in St Louis and has a condo in Destin on the beach. He specifically likes that corner of the state because he can drive there in a day. There are also cheap flights on Allegiant I believe. St Louis to Key Largo isn't doable for him! :D
