496 ho hesitation on start up

Just wondering if this is common for a 496 ho to start up like in the video, seems like a little hesitation when it starts up. Here is the YouTube link... https://youtu.be/jtLSHiblkBM

Sounds fine to me. If you have any doubt get the injectors cleaned/services/balanced. How were you feed the engine H2O?

Sounds like my old 496. If I remember correct, something has to prime for a sec then it fires.

Maybe I missed it, you are running water through the impeller right?

I hear nothing wrong in that vid. Sounds the same as mine.

Couldn't see a lot of water coming out the pipes, I assume you had the hose connected to an engine flush? When I flush mine on the muffs, I get a lot more water through the exhaust, make sure your water pressure isn't starving the cooling system.

I couldn't hear anything wrong. Is it a hesitation between turning the key and the starter motor turning or is it cranking a while before she fires?

Same here. Normal. Pack cooler. Go boating!

Yeah i have the garden hose hook up to the intake side on the raw water pump, it has decent flow just doesn't look like it in the video. Well it just seems like it fires then there is a little hesitation for a split second and then finishes it's ramp up...this is my first big block so was just curious. Have yet to water test it. Still warming up here in Canada....

Okay, I think I understand better now....
When she fires, the engine barks to life as though you've got the throttle open but then immediately seems to drop back below idle like it's going to stall then comes back up and stabilizes at normal idle speed. It only takes a second or two, If that's it then she's perfectly normal. Sounds more severe out of the water, exhaust noise isn't trapped under the platform like when it's in the water. Just enjoy the noise!

Where's BUP?

BUP 05-28-2018 10:25 AM

the link is posted but not accessible for me here.

A clean flame arrestor and clean IAC muffler and all its passages always help with idle control along with the IAC.
