Why cant they make gasoline?
It seems like they can synthetically make anything now days, why not gasoline? They know the chemical formula and it would help make us non dependent on the middle east (bomb them).
|
Good question.
The Formula-1 race cares used to run home-made fuels a few years ago, but now banned. Maybe they're too toxic or corrosive or not EPA friendly. I'll bet it would be very expensive. Look at the price of synthetic oil vs natural oil. |
Synthetic substances are generally more difficult to make than the natural item in high volumes. Also, it's very difficult to create synthetic volitiles. You simply can't conjur up the energy from thin air. It would take more energy to create the fuel than drilling for and processing the real thing. It could be done, all you'd need is carbon and hydrogen. Finding carbon in high quantities is not easy.

yes it is you should see my spark plugs from last year:D :D
|
Alright....you got me on that one! :D :D
|
baha is right . . it is very costly and requires a great deal of energy to produce. hyrdogen in perticular. it is also why hydrogen cell powered vehicles will not catch on for a very long time. these vehicles are very efficient having only three byproducts (heat, water and electricity) but the costly production of hydrogen makes them impractile with current day physics. . . .
|
Synthetic fuels are already here. A company I follow here in Tulsa, Syntroleum, uses natural gas to manufacture different types of fuels and other products. The bad news is they are only producing around 100 barrels a day. It cost upwards of $500 million to build a plant that will make 10,000 barrels a day, but it is coming.
|
alternative fuels are on the way .my personal idea is 5 more years to go.
synthetic materials cause xtra high pollution; but I believe pro's will solve this soon note: bomb them , I dont mind but pls dont mistarget , I am close to ''hot area'' |
LOL!! I forgot you were in Turkey, might not hurt to go for a LONG boat ride soon...
LOL! |
:) :)
HyperBaja : I am seriously planning to move to states.its enough the wars, economic crissis ,unstable markets etc... But its not that easy.Ive got my work and lots of investments here....on the other hand, its better to live in a country where you know nothing extra ordinary will happen the next day, where you can make plans for future. And the most important thing where you stay alive :) :) |
timucin- if youd like to send your boat over ahead of time i would be happy to keep an eye on it for you . . :D :D :D
|
thnx glassdave
;) :) |
I will be getting my license soon, If you need someone to keep an eye on some of those cars in that ferrari thread...
|
You should be proud of your country. They have been a strong ally past and present. I have said many time that the end game in the Middle East is democracy. As a secular democracy, Turkey is a role model for other Muslim nations seeking modernization. The European Union needs to have its head examined for snubbing Turkey.
On the other hand, when the bombs start dropping, keep you head down bro! |

Why go synthetic? Just go Ethenal. We have enough cheap corn and sugar.
I am already investing in a new local 40 million gallon per year plant. It should locally raise our corn price about a dime. We need a lot more!! |
Timucin...
Don't come to Washington DC. |
Why go synthetic? Just go Ethenal
Yea, what about alcohol as an alternate fuel? It's often used in racing and many more pro's than con's, and I was told the emission output can be much lower than that of gasoline. Best of all, you can go crazy with compression ratios and boost levels.:D
|
If you look at the specifications for gasoline, alcohol (methanol or ethanol) and even nitromethane, you will find that gasoline has BY FAR the highest energy content per gallon, and can be run much leaner that the other fuels. This means you carry far less of it onboard (weight), and go further per gallon ($$). Race cars make power with alcohol and nitro by pumping LOTS of it through the engine at lower air:fuel ratios. Both have some pretty nasty byproducts (formaldehyde, etc.) under these conditions as well.
Look at it this way - you pay about $1.50/gallon for gas, but about $6/gallon for bottled water. WTF is up with that? As soon as all the states copy NJ's 30 mph law, I'm fitting solar cells to the foredeck of my boat..... |
Just buy the gallon of spring water in the gallon jug, you can drink it like its a bottle and it is less than a dollar.

You can export to the States a line of Small Reasonably priced Boats ,Containers coming this way are cheaper than vice versa I Believe . There was a builder in Bahrain exporting to the States, now his key was the using of American material Input in his line of Export Boats it made things a Hell of lot easer thru Customs! And please get some of your Country men to start a Turkish Barber Shop in Miami!! I have not had a decent hair cut since I came back. |
Steve 1 : I was thinking seriously about the boats but ; cant even finish my boat.lots of cheap boats exist here but there is no need to carry garbage to states...
when/where/with who were you in Turkey? |

ragtop : remember that thread I told you the difficulties about building something here..
cheap boats are garbage!! that black boat is not cheap compare to other boats.but the producer is headache.....I dont believe he can finish a boat on time with promised options.there is only one way to buy a boat from this men : buying used. (he doesnt produce too much boat .so there is no way someone can have that boat...) |
Timucin we have a company here Bayliner that is sending garbage in from Mexico, I was never in Turkey but lived in the Middle-East!
I had a Turkish Guy on the Maintenance Crew at the Plant His Brothers Had a Barber Shop! Unbelievable !!! :) |
Tim so you just teased all of us with that photo and the big 40+ mold in the back ground. It is a shame that they are there but just collecting dust.
Steve not all of ther garbage comes from south of the border. They make alot of that garbage just over an hour north of my house. Close to Beligham WA so it almost comes from canada.:D |
ragtop; I am telling the truth.
but who knows may be one day I go into boat building business with a organised, qualified team and start sending boats there.. ;) |
I know I am just very curios out things your country iit s a nother world to me. Very difrent but very much the same. I real enjoy reading all of your posts and like the welth of info that you have about boats. What time is it were you live right know? Thanks for all the imput you give. Charlie

I've heard you cannot send methonal/ethonal thru a pipeline, therfor greatly diminishing it's availability and usage while driving up price. Is this correct??
Also, I to have always felt athat we will come up with something alternative and reasonable. We are too technologically advanced not to solve this simple, yet enormous, potential problem...i.e. running out of fuel oils. Besides we have a few decades to sort it out timucin......HAHAHA.....Iliked you comment about the hot zone...:D |
