Default Why cant they make gasoline?

It seems like they can synthetically make anything now days, why not gasoline? They know the chemical formula and it would help make us non dependent on the middle east (bomb them).

Good question.
The Formula-1 race cares used to run home-made fuels a few years ago, but now banned.
Maybe they're too toxic or corrosive or not EPA friendly.
I'll bet it would be very expensive. Look at the price of synthetic oil vs natural oil.

Synthetic substances are generally more difficult to make than the natural item in high volumes. Also, it's very difficult to create synthetic volitiles. You simply can't conjur up the energy from thin air. It would take more energy to create the fuel than drilling for and processing the real thing. It could be done, all you'd need is carbon and hydrogen. Finding carbon in high quantities is not easy.

baha is right . . it is very costly and requires a great deal of energy to produce. hyrdogen in perticular. it is also why hydrogen cell powered vehicles will not catch on for a very long time. these vehicles are very efficient having only three byproducts (heat, water and electricity) but the costly production of hydrogen makes them impractile with current day physics. . . .

Synthetic fuels are already here. A company I follow here in Tulsa, Syntroleum, uses natural gas to manufacture different types of fuels and other products. The bad news is they are only producing around 100 barrels a day. It cost upwards of $500 million to build a plant that will make 10,000 barrels a day, but it is coming.

alternative fuels are on the way .my personal idea is 5 more years to go.

synthetic materials cause xtra high pollution; but I believe pro's will solve this soon

note: bomb them , I dont mind but pls dont mistarget , I am close to ''hot area''

HyperBaja : I am seriously planning to move to states.its enough the wars, economic crissis ,unstable markets etc... But its not that easy.Ive got my work and lots of investments here....on the other hand, its better to live in a country where you know nothing extra ordinary will happen the next day, where you can make plans for future. And the most important thing where you stay alive
