Using my boat as a backdrop for a video of someone's tender, shouldn't I get some royalties for that?

These "mini cruise ships" are ridiculous! Some destinations like the Bahamas become off limits due to deep draft required. Dilbar needs 20 ft! That rules out a lot of Florida unless you want to visit commercial ports!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilbar_(yacht) Holds 40 guests but has a crew of 80? Reminds me of the center console argument: simplicity is why you buy one! Want it fast, make it 3 motors Then we need more fuel which means more weight Well then add 1-2 more motors so it is faster but then we need more fuel. So now my kind of fast center console has 5 motors and needs to carry 600 gallons of fuel but what about the main reason for getting one (simplicity)? |
BTW if you need a reminder of the biggest $%&# contest (boat) just visit a place like Ft Lauderdale in season. You will be in awe at the 125 footer until you notice the 225 footer the next dock over. Then you will notice they "DON'T MOVE!" for weeks at a time. A quick google search of the vessel name usually shows the vessel is for sale.
Unless you can use the boat 4-5 months a year I'd say RENT IT! The annual dockage for a mega yacht would exceed the rental cost for a full month! Forget about crew/insurance costs. This family seems to be doing a lot of cool trips with this 180 footer: |

Dilbar is in it's own class though with a handful of other boats like it and those people in that class don't seem to want or care to rent it., hell it is hard to just find pics of the inside as they want it as private as it can be.

Coincidence that all top ten largest yachts in the world are owned by Saudi and Russian oil barons? Hmmmmm. Still think Eclipse is my favorite of the bunch.
And I disagree that they are limited on portage and can't go to the Bahamas or Florida or absolutely anywhere. You just end up anchoring offshore like the cruise ships in many ports. Paul Allen has a house about 2 miles from our place in Kona, Hawaii and anchors up Octopus off the point for weeks at a time. What do you think the helicopter and 50' tenders are for? LOL. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7c39b836ea.png https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...606c37d6ae.png https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...900d0545c8.png |
There's only so much money one really needs, the rest is just for showing off..... F Gump

https://nextshark.com/take-a-tour-of...ed-for-a-week/ Dibars owner has a estimated net worth of 13 billion and even boast the boat as "not for hire". I think he is ok money wise if the boat is rented or not. |
When my daughter lived in West Palm Beach, I'd go visit her - and while she was at work, I'd hang out in her condo pool which was about six feet from the edge of the ICW (so close I could almost spit in it). Spent some fun afternoons chilling in the pool with a few beers, watching the huge yachts come down the ICW to Palm Beach for "The Season." One day, I saw one so big I just had to go back into her condo to look it up on the computer...as I recall, it was The Octopus.

A renter of Mega yachts yes, a renter of Dilbar, no.

I also think the Russian guys buying/building these huge boats is a way to keep the money global, out of Russia. If they have a 300mm yacht traveling the world it is harder for the Russian Govt. to get their hands on it vs. keeping it in Russian banks or Russian real estate. |
I couldn't afford the poo'er on one of these things.

I have a 50 ft Express Cruiser built By Cruisers Yachts. Great Boat.. Love it. But I keep it in Aventura Florida between N Miami and Ft Lauderdale. Lets just say in that neck of the woods... Its not a Yacht...lol...

Baah , these things are teeny.
Mine's so big that you pass through 3 time zones between the stern and bow ! |

A buddy is a mate on a big Viking sportfish. At wide open throttle it burns $1200 an hour in diesel, that is $20 a minute! |
I've visited Monaco and the French Riviera. Monaco is simply an 'excess of wealth'. I loved visiting and I was super impressed with the boats but it was difficult to comprehend the existence of such a place. I was left wondering about the people who own the bigger boats, "What do their houses look like?" RR . |

The fuel is the real deal breaker! Octopus (Paul Allen's boat Tank posted) carries 187,000 gallons of diesel. Assume the tanks are empty and you get diesel delivered for $4 a gallon. It will cost you almost $750,000 to fill it ONCE!

From my understanding, it's like planes, it takes 10% a year of the purchase cost to maintain as well. Crazy money. Owning a yacht that big with all that going on would actually stress me out, not relax me LOL. But I guess when it's FU money you get used to not being in control of every aspect of things like all your properties, yachts, fleet of cars, etc.
I have a client that sold a chain of TV stations for over 1B. He has a plane/yacht yet his favorite boat to talk about is a 20 ft flats boat! His yacht is 40 ft too big to fit behind his house and the boat visits exotic places and he just follows in the plane. He pays a really cute girl to be a house manager. She even fuels the cars! :D |
