6.5 chevy diesel problems
My father in law has a 95 6.5 Turbo diesel chevy and it needs and injector pump. Where is the best place to get one, and how hard are they to put on? Its the electric one. Also has anyone done this before?

GM put 6 in my 1994. I paid for the last one, $2200. Lots of upgrades to the pumps. first, the bolts for the optical sensor were too tight, then not enough torque and on and on. Find a Stanadyne rebuilder to do the pump. There is one in columbia, SC that did mine while we waited in a motel for 2 days one winter.

Just did a complete top end rebuild of my 93 6.5 TD

Hello you may want to check with tour local checy dealer, there is a special policy on that component and the truck may be part of it . I think it is 7 years and up to 120000 miles. I will check in the morning and post again

My father in law's is a work truck and it has 200,000 miles on it. He usually has 2k pounds of stuff in the bed and it run great. Except for this inj. problem.

I love the truck-It only has 118,000 miles on it but I do use it for pulling the boat and trailer. (14,000 lbs) It got hot twice and that will kill the 6.5 TD. DON'T GET IT OVER 230*
I rebuilt the heads and did some performance mods to the heads to help air flow and lifespan. Also ported the top of the intake manifold. Put the 97 style water pump and thermostat housing on it and had the inj. pump turned up 15% over stock. I have the turbo set to allow up to 15 lbs of boost at low rpm ( under 3000) and installed a EGT. The truck pulls much better now and doesn't get hot. It is a rocket . I estimate I gained 50 HP The reason it got hot was that I lost the alternater twice at highway speeds and it tossed the serpentine belt. |
I have a 1994 C2500 suburban with 95,000 miles on it. I'm on my 13th injector pump and 3rd lift pump. The warrenty was changed on the injector pump from 5 years/100,000 miles to 11years/120,000 miles. That is the only reason I still have it. When the warrenty goes so does this lemon! I bought a 2002 F350 diesel to pull with now and no troubles. I wish you better luck than I have had.

Tinker-you may be suprised at how much you are over the factory's tow rating. When I was looking for a new truckster, I was digging through some old brochures that I had. Depending on your gear ratio and chassis, you could be towing close to twice the rating! That's no BS. They really are rated that low.

Cord is right. 1994 C2500 6.5 turbo diesel with 4:10 gears and auto trans had a max tow of 8,000LBS. the K2500 was 7,500LBS. That same suburban with 454ci gas engine was 10,000LBS.
