Who will build the first "modern" 40+ foot outboard cat
.
with more powerful outboards on our horizon, which manufacturer will build the first 40 or 40+ foot cat with outboards ?
I don't mean converting an I/O model thats been around for years and slapping outboards on jackplates
exciting times for those players...

Mystic & Skater have 40+ foot cats already built but not built for outboards.
Doug Wright's newest model is a 44 foot cat with tooling in the works, but didn't hear yet if they're also designed for outboards...if it is designed for outboards, then DW will be first to build it.
Pilini Marine can build one but I think he's concentrating on his new 34 foot cat

The new DW 44 can be setup with outboards.

It remains to be seen if these high HP outboards can keep the lowers together. Hence the reason that Seven-Marine has stayed aimed at the big CC market where the boats don’t leap/leave the water as often. They just can’t handle the unloading and loading of the lower halves.

Mystic just came out with a 38 cat with twin 409r. The article in SOW .says it was 100+ mph. Sounds quite a bit slower than a 36 DW.
If you get to 40+ feet you will be less than 100 or need more than doubles. I think at that point the Merc 860s would be more logical.
Are you getting a big cat that strains to get to 100 or one that can easily cruise at 100+. For me I would want to be able to cruise at 100 and be able to air it out at 140.
A 36 skater or DW is a 120+ boat that can cruise easily at 100. There is a big jump in fuel use between 70-80% of throttle and 95%. I think you buy a boat that can well exceed your cruise speed and that you are not pushing it to the limits all the time.

The mystic doing 100 with the history of the owner of that boat and he is happy with it says a lot.
Now that hat being said the 38 mystic is a lot bigger then all the other “new” cats. So don’t see it being that far off at 100 with twins
