What year motors? That will determine if the heads need to be pulled or not.

At 400hrs, the heads need pulled. New head gaskets springs, locks, retainers and valve job.
A lot of good info here https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...y-hours-9.html

I agree with griff. At a minimum heads need to be pulled. Head gaskets are notorious for leaking. On top of that valves should be inspected (reversion) and valve job. Springs need to be replaced and for the cost of lifters and rockers, I’d just replace them now. It’s cheap insurance and piece of mind.

Cost really depends on who you use and how much of the work you plan to do yourself.

If you plan to pull engines and dis-assemble and re-assemble you can save quite a bit of money. Engine pull and re-install is $1000-1200 alone.

Parts for both engines will be around 3-4k (assuming you opt for new lifters $600-800 per engine).

Labor for motor work is kind of a crap shoot. I’d figure $1200-2000 per motor if they are doing tear down and setup (I.e valve train, valve job, etc.).

I agree with the above post, do it all. Engines will run top notch and at full rpm you wont be wondering if rocker bearings are going to explode. Also pressure check the headers, flow test/rebuild injectors and change spark plug wires.

Definitely address the headers while doing the top ends.

I just posted on my rebuild experience in the General Discussion section, did full rebuilds at 470 hrs

one Piston had a broken ring when we did the tear down so not sure if that would have been discovered if just doing the heads???

you can PM me for pricing I was quoted but that was 2015
