I can only write for my engine! It was made 10/2010 and have never an issue! Much more Power than 496 as i have use 2 pitch more props, as my friend with same boats and 496.
Never any issue with anything!
Weight much better than 496!
Alloy pulley,alloy heads and some more light parts.
I would buy again!
There are allways better stuff,and i think this iron cast engine die out next years and alloy engines will come.

Thanks for the education.. the boat I purchased has 2002 496 MAG HO with only 170hrs. and no cats!

This are an diffrent old engine! The new 8.2 is beginning to made in 2010!
They made them with and without cats!
I never seen an 496 with cats,but maybe latest from them can have!!
2001 come out the first 496!

Sorry if this seeems like a dumb question, what made you change the cap and rotor every year? I currently have a 502s. Thanks.
