i still think that a supercharged V8 is the best platform to get Mercury to the next level of performance outboards. The inline-6 Is maxed out I think . |
And Merc upped the warranty on the 400s to 3 years this year. Another indication they are happy with how it is holding up.

The V8’s were made to fill the void of the ailing 2 strokes in the bass boat / lighter hull market segment. The I6 is by far the most successful and bulletproof platform in Mercurys history. With the new sleevless & full die cast block, and the new SC that was introduced on the 350/400, the range for HP on the I6 will be quite impressive. Keep in mind the 400 is THE most successful product ever made by Merc, so dont expect it to go away anytime soon. Regardless, you can stick a fork in the 400R, it’s done. Mercury has a whole line of lighter, more powerful products in the works based off the new design. |

THE most successful product? That’s a pretty bold statement, any facts to back that up? Regardless, you can stick a fork in the 400R, it’s done. Mercury has a whole line of lighter, more powerful products in the works based off the new design. The lighter more powerful products are based off of the new redesigned, full cast, sleevless I6 block. Which will be much lighter than the current design. The new water cooled supercharger will be brought over from the current platform. PPAP’s have already been run on the new block, water testing is currently happening in Dubai. |
