phenomenon

word on the street is scotty is rigging it with 2 turbines and making it a poker run boat for someone.

HerdOfTurtles 11-05-2018 01:27 PM

YAY!

I pass this boat every time I go grocery shopping and it is ridiculous to me no one has built a carport/roof for it or any of the other presumably high-dollar boats next to it. They are just sitting in a parking lot getting blasted by rain and sun. They do have tonneau type covers(phenom does not) but idk to me a tonneau/cockpit cover is more of a short term thing or something you do in addition to having a roof over it. There's a small boat dealer just down the street from it that has a number of 'new' boats just sitting out in the rain and sun with no cover at all.

Be cool to see if so, I think most everyone would like to see that boat on the water even if not setting any records and just out enjoying it.

Is it still in good shape? I remember reading the story behind it not to long ago. Good to hear that someone’s doing something with it.

iamjoe 11-05-2018 05:18 PM

Its a heavy boat for sure it will take some tall power to make it run near its potential. Very cool that its not just going to deteriorate to junk.

After the shut down Copeland motorsports he started his own company Scotty’s performance in the boats been there I’ve got the ri after the shutdown Copeland motor sports he started his own company Scottys performance and the boats been there.

It's been kept outside for years. Still looks great though.

I can second this! Its been outside fro a while with drives and engines pulled. Herd, its a has a closed cockpit, so nothing is open that I know, so really its just a painted boat outside. Not sure when it was taken, but looks like a cover is over it though.

If true, this will be nice to see it running! I may have to detour that way in the morning on my way to work (New Orleans)

Awesome!!

NWfreerider 12-28-2018 01:48 PM

Will it have 4 turbines or two drives per turbine?

IGetWet 12-28-2018 02:13 PM

In order to live up to its name I think it needs two turbines per side or one each side @ 5000hp each. Clearly already set up for what looks like four BPMs.

chattviper 12-28-2018 02:26 PM

According to FB, 2 turbines, 2 drives.

Isnt this thing ungodly heavy? Like 26k lbs?

I read that a lot of the weight is in the 'over manufactured' cockpit safety cell. It was designed to withstand a crash at huge speed so if it's getting re-rigged for a more modest application, that strengthened safety cell may be ripped out.

But yeah, she's still fairly heavy, the original concept was twin turbines but then grew to 4 turbines with such immense power that weight really didn't matter. If you search around, I think most of this is posted or linked on OSO.

Still good to read someone is working to put her on the water. Great project to resurrect.

RR

P.S. Haven't re-read this thread but I think it contains a fair bit of info...

The boat should still perform to a certain mark of respectability with the twin 3+K Hp T55's.. if you keep in mind it's seating capacity is in keeping with a small school bus.

Interesting to see how is actually performs upon sea trial and later dial-in... either way, when Phenomenon arrives at a poker run or ?????, all eyes (and conversation) are going to be on that boat alone.... great to see its not in a weed field abandoned and someone is trying make it work - compliments for the effort!

Really glad someone is going to save Al Copeland Sr. dream boat Phenomenon, may not be a record breaker as planned but will be a boat with the history of an Offshore Powerboat Legend and one of a kind. Happy New Year.

Juts saw a video in FB firing up the turbines
