Around Long Island Rally July 20th 2019
AROUND LONG ISLAND RALLY
In the summer of 1959, a bunch of Long Island boat dealers started a marathon race around Long Island, as a way to promote their own businesses. Over the many years this event has run and been known under various names, the one constant factor that attracted competitors is, the challenge of completing the circumnavigation of a 271 mile island regardless of the weather. As a way to celebrate both the 60th Anniversary of the founding of this ALI race and the 50th Anniversary of Don Aronow's 1969 UIM World Championship, NPBA and HORBA PRESENTS on JULY 20, 2019 FIRST ANNUAL, 2019 AROUND LONG ISLAND POWERBOAT RALLY. Do you have a map with the stops you could share with possibly the distance between them. Is there an option to do possibly one or two legs of the event. I have a 1973 21" Dozi GT. I wouldn't event want to think about doing 271 miles LOL. Sounds like a blast!

How does a rally work? Some more info on what to expect please.

As far as help, all SEA TOW and US BOAT tow services will be marked on a map, with their respective phone numbers and radio contact info. REMEMBER THIS IS A RALLY NOT A RACE In the early days of the race, they had a staggered start and the single engine boats started before the twin engine boats. This enabled them all to finish in a pretty close window of time. We are looking at that too. We want to operate it in a manner that each boat no matter the size or power, has the opportunity to run along with one of the Historic Offshore Race Boats, for a short time at least. We are working on swag bags and ideas for participant awards and decals for both boats and for memories later on. A lot of discussion and then lots of decisions will be made before the event happens, that is why we announced it 7 months in advance so everyone could have plenty of time to plan and have a wonderful experience |

There will only be one stop for everyone .....and that will be the lunch stop at Montauk. If you need to stop along the way for fuel or supplies and then rejoin us later that is fine. If you decide that on the day of the event, you get to Montauk and you feel the weather is not right for you to continue on the Atlantic Ocean side....... and you want to return to the finish line by going back over the same route you used to get to Montauk, that is fine too. Each participant will get a certificate that will describe how they participated in the event.... and what route they used. |

From the little Formula 233 with a single engine to the big triple engine Apache. All sizes, years, brands, etc are welcome. Bob Nordskogs' old 39 foot boat on the Cover of Powerboat magazine, was sold to someone in New Jersey. The Black Pearl, the old Slap Shot, has been sold to someone who is returning it to Slap Shot look. The red Banner Boat 41 Apache.... has been restored and should be ready by summer. |
What is the record for a 21" boat ???? Im trying to build a team. Does it matter how many people were in the boat back in the day? I need young people LOL. I know its not a race but that's all I know. WOT
