Best way to hop up 502 Magnum
Any have any recommendation on the best way to hop up a 502. I would like to get about 500hp out it. Just curious on what anyone has done and the cost associated with it. I'm running it in my 25' Fountain CS. Thanks for the help.

I second Fever Mike. You have a 24 foot boat. It is a 24 Fever CS the CS meaning competition ski. It will easy to get 500 hp out of the motor if you ditch the EFI and go with a carb. Shave the heads to get the compression ratio to around 9.25 to 1, recam, add a good exhaust system, and your there. To make 500 hp with the factory EFI will be more difficult and expensive.

Thanks guys. The boat is actually 24'9" It's listed in NADA as a 25' Competition Series. I love the idea of getting rid of the EFI. If I went that route Ron, how much do you think I would be talking to get around 500HP. It's around 420HP right now. Just a ball park. Thanks.

If you have that thing running at 75 with a stock 502MAG where are you looking to go? I would decide what speed you are looking to run and then figure out weather its economical to do so. I have mild upgrades to a 502MAG and it runs quite nice with the injectors. The added benifit of the computer is the idiot features (ie;bad gas will retard timing) and trouble shooting. This all came at a pretty steep price though. Not sure I would have done it the same way over again.
Nice boat, hope to get up to log bay next year and catch up.

Log bay??? If you look close, that is where the picture is taken under my name. Too bad it was October 21st. Let me know when you're up this way, I live on the Lake and would be happy to show you around if you need it. Some good local boating spots. Take care...
And oh yeah....I would like to see at least 80 MPH if not a little more. Thanks.

I was up twice in the last month or two as a guest of HotBoat. Shane was kind enough to let us use his dock on our first visit and Otis311 provided a tour and some High Speed towing on our second visit. What a beautiful lake.
Cant wait for the spring when we can get together (with the boats) again.
My boat is going to be up for sale soon and the builder is getting together the specs for the upgrades we've made over the last few years. I would be happy to share the info with you and show you the dyno sheets. If you can find someone to work the fuel injected motor I still feel thats the way to go.

Here's what I did to a 502 Mag in my previous boat. BAJA Bandit, ran 80 mph.
Full port on the stock heads, 2.25" intake valves, 252/258 @.050 .680/.708" lift solid roller cam, roller rockers, dart intake, 1050 Dominator. Although I would use an 850 if I did it again.
No changes to bottom end.
Over 600HP @crank. Very Reliable.

Add a Procharger @ 5lbs max boost, ECU tune and exhaust system and you'll be looking at 600hp with good reliability and idle. I have a 27 Fever with this setup and run right at 80. There have been some good deals on slightly used Prochargers on this board.

Team G intake with an 850. Hydraulic roller cam. Roller rockers. Milled head with a good valve job. Electric fuel pump. Some decient exaust. The exaust is a must, if not your wasting your money. With a good pro rebuild, and some used exaust, should be less than $5,000.
