For cuddy cabin/over nighter owners..
 

I decied to do/dedicate a FB page to the life style for anyone interested.
I know I was shocked at the response to a thread I did yrs ago, about staying on our small 24' cuddy.
A lot from people Id not seen post before. Seems there are way more of us on this board than post.
I know some of them are not the typical go fast offshore boat that this board caters to so I thought I would share some of my experiences and tricks Ive learned along the way.

First rule is the most important tp pulling off a great weekend on a small boat w/the Mrs/GF etc and was taught to me by my old man decades ago.
It is. "If the first mate aint happy, aint nobody happy".
My wife concurs.

My 1969, 19' Glastron Carslon at the Catawba Island ramp before heading for Leamington Ontario on the other side of Lake Erie. That damn thing actually slept 4 adults!

So anyhow, Ive done a BUNCH of boating/exploring w/small, affordable, trailerable cuddys and thought I would share some of those travels, tricks, destinations etc.

I too do a lot of overnighters on my Formula 242SS. I have always enjoyed sleeping on the boat. I usually do about a week at a time. Personally I like covered berths at marinas for the evening/nights. Currently planning a trip from Chattanooga, TN to Nashville, TN this summer. 135 miles by land and 700 by water with no back tracing. Should take about 10-14 days with plenty of unscheduled time for whatever. We anticipate a 40-45 mph cruse speed. Anybody else do this trip, any info insight is welcome and appreciated.

Correct, Tennessee River to 3 miles short of Kentucky Dam, thru the canal onto Barkley Lake (at Green Turtle) and up the Cumberland to Nashville.
You could add 50 miles by locking out Lake Kentucky to the Ohio and in the Cumberland (at Paducah) and lock back to Lake Barkley.
This should be fun, as of now looks like me and one other. Any interest?

We spent the last few yrs w/a 36' cruiser docked at Lake Erie.
Loved the boat, love the lake, but w/a 17 mph cruising speed it was tough to see much different.

We are excited to get back to trailer boating/exploring.

I am looking forward to the Ohio River. Our plans are to find a boat race on the river or an event going on in one of the small river front towns, launch from 50/60 mls away, run to the city and spend the weekend docked there.
Then spend Sunday poking our way back to the trailer.

Another trip idea is for up north.
When I was a kid my parents cruised. We'd leave south shore Lake Erie, cross to and up the Detroit River, cross Lake St Clair, St Clair River into Lake Huron. One yr we'd follow east coast of Lake Huron, on the Canadian side to Georgian Bay/North Channel and the next yr, follow the west coast/Michigan side to Mackinac Island.
In all the yrs of owning my own cruisers I was never able to pull off the time/boat/money to duplicate that trip.

But w/the trailer boat, we figure, tow to Port Huron (S.end of Huron) , launch and spend a week following my dads trails.
That is Gods country up there. I remember as a kid, expecting to see indians walk out of the woods surrounding the coves we were exploring.

Cant wait.

From your posted location in Ohio,The Tennessee trip is just a 450 mile tow for the boat (each way).
We are thinking late summer, we are looking for an event to plan the timing around, Maybe the poker run and music festival on Pickwick Lake or something like that anyways. As I said we are planning several no plan days to incorporate anything that comes up. If you do a little research you will be amazed at the variety of things along this route.

Surprisingly the fuel prices I have found in this area are very reasonable. Last summer when no alcohol fuel 90 was $ 3.49 at the truckstop it was only $ 3.79 at the marinas. Gas prices for regular then was $2.64/gal at truckstop for reference.
As for boat races KDBA uses Kentucky Lake as their home base. They have their races at Pisgah Bay, across the lake from Moore's Marina.
