37777 Scorpian engine package???
 

Guys
Do the 377 Scorpion small blocks blue motors require the same valve train maintenance the blue 500/525 ect. require upon 200-250 hours? Trying to find intel and educate myself on these motors verses the Black 350 mag or 6.2 liters prior to purchase.

What Merc maintenance would be required of these motors not to include the normal (raw water impeller, motor/drives oil changes ect). After having twin BB in my last Sonic I'm looking to go twin SB to allow ease of access in the engine compartment that I can perform myself.

Any idea what the cost to rebuild a small block 350/377?

It's my understanding they don't need the same BS that the other blue engines do. In short, they require premium fuel which is why they can make power without an exotic valve train. That's good and bad. While reliable it's a pain in the ass to get premium on the water.

Cam lifts in a SBC are not as high as a BBC so thus the valve train will last longer

And needed 93 octane as well

It says 92 octane on top of the engines. Together with my engines came some stickers that says minimum 91 octane, but not sure if it applies to earlier models.

I have been told that I should expect that the engines can do at least 750 hours before having to perform any "major" maintenance, but not sure if it is true.

Not sure I quite follow the reasoning for buying them. If the goal is to get something easier to work on and less maintenance then go with outboards.
