Thanks Fred, sending the props to Mercury to have them labbed, now that the season is over for me. Trying to get an exact weight on the boat.

apache77 10-30-2002 10:27 PM

i'm not sure about gas but water is 8.5 # and salt water is 10# per gallon so gas should be close to that

Automotive fuel is usually rounded to 7 pounds per gallon, I know some plane guys use it too, maybe it's just a safety margin.

mcollinstn 10-30-2002 10:56 PM

Pump gas is awful close to 6 pounds. Diesel is closer to 7 pounds. Water is a shade over 8. Figure a smidge over 7 for lubricating oils and hydraulic fluids.

scarab26 10-30-2002 11:19 PM

GAS 7.48 LBS/GAL
WATER 8.33 LBS/GAL

see this link:

http://www.processassociates.com/cgi-bin/oil_vw.exe

gasoline: 6.2 lb. per US gallon
lubricating oil: 7.2 lb. per US gallon
diesel: 7.0 lb. per US gallon

scarab26 10-31-2002 12:19 AM

Your right on the gasoline weight.
6.2 lb/gal on 87 octane
6.21 on 89
6.4 on 93
diesel 7.0 lbs
water 8.33 lbs/gal
I got the 7.48 for # of gallons per cubic feet of water.

Steve 1 10-31-2002 12:45 AM

I have seen numbers on Gasoline from 5.8 to 6.5 Pounds per gallon
Fresh water and sea water I have also seen 62-62.5 pounds and 64 pounds per cubic Foot used respectively

1 gallon of ethonol weighs around 6.59 Pounds

Also 4 tablespoons of a Neutron Star would weigh around A Billion Tons Have not seen that . Yet!

Scarab26 beat me to it.

I was just going to ask, What type/octane gas are you referring to?
We found there is a difference.

rtn137 11-04-2002 09:18 AM

5.4lbs to 6.2lbs depending on temp.
6.0lbs is close enough.
