500 efi. Power steering pump

Who makes the power steering pump for mercury on a 500 EFI the type with the remote reservoir? Is that a mercury only part proprietary to mercury or is it a GM pump used on a big block Chevy and some application

Could be wrong, but always thought it was just a GM pump, the reservoir is usually part of the hydraulic steering system.

I just went through this!!! It's the same pump GM used on the 1981 thru 85 Cadillac Seville 4.1L..... They're all over Ebay much cheaper than Mercury's $550 price tag.

Are the internals the same, valve and stuff ?? part #

Everything is the same... Just need the pressure relief valve out of the original pump. Mercury steering systems run at a lower pressure than automotive. The pump I bought on ebay was a reman... A-1 Cardone #88652YN. You will need a pulley install/removal tool to change out the pulley hub. I ended up having to buy a new hub, couldn't get the old one off. Mercruiser hub #47530

Quickly checking the net,
The AcDelco one is a tad cheaper, as a heads up:
ACDELCO 36P0279

I called Cardone today and talk to a tech he said it may look the same but the flow rate and the pressure may be different. Where is the Pressure valve located on the backside where the hose comes in

ccrder1 04-08-2019 04:18 PM

The pressure relief valve is located behind the pressure hose fitting

WTF,might have been a little off in the prior post here, might be again, but I might have a Merc PS pump kicking around from some years back. Give me a few days, let me look thru some chit, might have a fix for your problem.

I'm guessing that most any Merc PS pump is very close to the same? Subtle differences, but close?
