Buff and Wax Recommendations

What’s everyone recommending for buffing and waxing these days...? I did some research and it looked like fountain of youth...?

Targeting a full detail next weekend. Have considerable oxidation on the deck. Sides are in pretty good shape.

Also any recommendations for how to handle graphics? We are ok with going pretty aggressive on the gel coat. Need to be careful on the paint.

This is a picture of the transom of the new mcon race boat. I can find out what they used to polish it, but I know it was random orbit polishers with foam pads, and they coated it with material from The Ceramic company.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1b34dca2e.jpeg

Hard compound the deck to a shine The “awesome buff” from FOY is really good also to get the deck issues out and back into a shine. Once you’ve got the shine back use “Vitreo” from FOY or collinite 845.

Used 3M marine for years. Moved to Leverage products as well as Collinite. Settled on Fountain of Youth. Totally Buff and Vitreo are awesome products. Really live up to their reputations.

for anyone using totally buff...is it aggressive enough to take out oxidation?

It makes short work of mild oxidation. Could not say about heavy. Might want to look at Vibra Cut followed by Totally buff.

Anyone have suggestions of using vitreo vs. a ceramic coating?

Presta super cut compound works awesome on gel coat! No need to wet sand. Doesn't even need a Polish after. Just a coat of colinite wax to protect the shine!

precisiondetails 05-13-2019 12:15 AM

All depends on the condition of the boat and surface. When compounding gel coat it soaks up the compound and drys it out a lot faster than clear coat. I can tell you that the most popular machine these days is the long throw DA machines. With the best brand being the Rupes machine. It’s what the company used that did MCon race boat as well as Ron’s 2 new boats. I have contact with them and have just sent them some samples of our products.

You all need to check out a product called BEAD MAKER! It’s blowing up the detail industry. Google that and you will see plenty of videos on it.

I ceramic coated our Fountain May of 2017. Since then all I have ever done is put Bead Maker on it a total of about 5 times, ZERO wax. And it still cleans up 2 years later as if I had just waxed it only like a few weeks earlier.

I have no experience with Ceramic Coatings but I have been using FOY products for years including the Vitreo and I find it hard for other products to compete.
Another product I really like from FOY is their Power One if you have any mineral stains or yellowing on the hull it removes it extremely well with not much effort.

"surface migrating molecules" Whenever I read these type terms I think they're full of poop.

I have tried couple of stuff, to cheap to buy expensive and didn't want to buy anything steps to get results. I was just going pay someone to buff out boat. I heard about FOY totally buff I will not try anything else again. This stuff is easy to use and gives amazing results

J-Bonz 05-20-2019 08:44 PM

Glass dave sold me on the FOY products. Awesome stuff!!!

go to there website...click on products. then click on each product in the side bar. That will give you the option to purchase. Everything is done thru PayPal.

Just went over the UPGP sealant on my boat and car with Bead Maker, and the results were pretty good. What was more impressive was what it did on my truck. It sits outside 24/7/365 and had nothing but a few washes since last fall. Washed and Iron X’ed and put on Bead Maker. Shine and gloss are as good or better than when I used UPGP, and the Bead Maker cures faster. Any used car lot that isn’t using this stuff in their detail bay is wasting money.

Well sure, but yours is $8.99 for 16oz at Harbor Freight versus the Bead Maker at $34 for 128oz (delivered), so your choice is double the price! Not all of us have that “Cigarette money”, but your choice is definitely working for you, that looks great.

Also, and this is important- when you buy the NuFinish, the profits go to some nameless, faceless mega-corp. When you buy Bead Maker, a portion of the profits go to a forum member, who in turn may use said money to support single mothers during a catamaran event in Michigan. That’s Charity!! (Or Mercedes, or Diamond, or whomever is next up on the center stage).

Vitreo from fountain of youth... never seen better.

Delo1142 06-23-2019 07:50 PM

I used FOY Awesome Buff and Vitreo today for some minor paint correction. Very impressed- super easy to use.

My Bead Maker arrived on my doorstep today based on your recommendation.... I'll report back. My old superboat gets chalky quick.

Who is the member that makes Bead Maker? I see lots of sites, but I'd like to buy direct and give it a try.
