Hydraulic lifters and closed cooled 1075’s??
Couple questions regarding 1075’s....
Why don’t engine builders rebuild with hydraulic lifters, even if it means loosing a little HP but making it less maintenance intense. Also, why hasn’t anybody put closed cooling kits on the 1075’s with all of the salt corrosion issues on the heads??
I would think a closed cooled, hydraulic lifter 1075 would be a super nice engine.

I'm interested in this answer. I expect the trouble areas to be valvesprings, rocker arms and lifters. I also expect they would not like adjusting lash. Let's see what people say...

I would think the hydraulic lifters would cut down on the maintenance *(i.e. valve lash requirements and simple wear and tear) more than the rebuild schedule. I also agree with whomever said they wouldn't go bigger than a 700 v-8. Even with the power-outer that's a big number for a conventional gas burner IMHO. One can get A LOT more power from a v-8 but the more power the less reliability. To bad there's not an easy way to make the turbines more user friendly and usable. There is no other engine that makes that kind of power with so little maintenance. There's a reason they strap a couple of those to an aluminum tube, fill it with 300 people and launch to 30000 or more feet off the ground.

Hydraulic lifters have been done on 1075’s. New hydraulics can make very very close to the same amount of power as solid rollers. Johnson’s seem to be the way to go for HP marine and automotive applications.

The 700SCI makes over 900hp with stage 4 upgrades. The 700 is basically a 525 with a blower, but pretty basic internals. I would think with all of the high dollar parts and quad rotor Whipple on the 1075, if you closed cooled it and put in a hydraulic lifter setup, it should be able to make 1000hp for a very very long time.

we boat alot,I check the lash twice a season,takes a couple hours start to finish(both engines).when done right,,the tension for the supercharger belt will barely move when idling.1075's in a 46 outerlimit.
