Performance boating in lake Taho?

OK. So the Avanti is in Sarasota in storage for sale. Not much action, :( Thinking to bring it out to CA, have it on a rack at Lake Tahoe. What's gong on at that lake? Will I feel ok? any others crazy peeps running around in performance boats? Should I ? I hate to be with out the boat, paying for storage and not even using it.
Comments? Input?
Thanks
P

Sure you can. Lots of boats stay on mooring balls, which would put you at the marinas mercy for getting to and from your boat. There are also more normal marinas and yacht clubs though. The lake is almost exclusively formulas, cobalts, and wake boats. It’s not like anywhere else I’ve boated, amazing and very unique. Extremely cold water.

and it's deep too!

If you don't have computer controlled EFI motors you'll have to deal with air density altitude and carburetor adjustments due to the lake being to high above sea level. You may also have to reprop.

I bought my old 38 top gun from Lake Tahoe. There’s a handful of go fasts running around but like Tim said, your going to need efi and your going to lose a ton of speed in the altitude.

The water patrol is VERY strict on noise levels. I don't know the decibel level but mufflers are required.

I know there is an Apache that is spotted there at times but that is about all I know of the area (seen the pics posted is all)

Years ago, I participated in the last POPRA boat race on Lake Tahoe. We were accused of polluting their drinking water, and treated like second class citizens. I have no desire to ever go back there.

I lived out there for 4 years. It's not a friendly area for go fasts IMO. Too many tree huggers who don't want the noise and the pollution. They were tough on motorcycles too for the noise.

Thanks, well, I do have EFI, so that's good. On the rest, looks like the jury is still out.
Have a few sets of props too.
Keep the comments coming. I might have to do a drive by the lake soon.

They also have very strict inspections for invasive species. They pretty much go through the boat with a white glove and if anything is damp it’s a fail.

I’m down in Silicon Valley where it’s not as strict, and the guy ahead of me failed because there were a few drops on the hull from when he passed a lawn sprinkler. The boat was otherwise bone dry.

Dave Tratell runs the 41' Apache Straight Arrow in Tahoe. He also owns Kid Apache, Lucky Strike, Little Ceasars and one more I believe.

Do you have NA or forced induction ?

He's got superchargers. The trick to high elevation as you can change the air pressure the engine see's with a pulley change. :)

You should also reach out to Rick Bowling, he runs Gone Again, his 377 Talon, on the lake during the summer. He has a home there.

They were very strict abt pollution in that lake back in the 80's when I lived in N Cal. A friend of a friend got a big fine cause his bilge pump came on after getting caught in a pop-up rain shower. I can't even imagine what it's like now. If your boat sinks (or anything else), it's gone. Water depth is well over 1000'.
It is beautiful there though. I've looked down on the lake many times from the top of Heavenly Valley (ski resort). On a clear day, the reflection of the snow covered mountains in the water is just incredible.
