This thread still lives!!! Pretty happy with it overall. Phil did a good job of maintaining the boat IMO, although the surveyor could have done a better job. I wish I would have hired another. Few things could have been better reported so I could have had Lip-Ship take care of them in FLA before it got up here at LOTO. I never got to put me eyes on it personally due to a broken leg/ankle right after I put the deposit on it. My time in it last summer was pretty limited, I guess i'm done with hockey.............. |

Are there any long term updates on this process? I am currently going through the same thing with a much older boat that spent a longer time in salt water. While I feel it was well maintained, it definitely has an issue due to salt water. I added to another thread regarding Marine Machine steering and a replacement shaft for a cylinder so I won’t repeat that here. However, after reading about going from salt to fresh water the main thing I’m seeing is changing the anodes to magnesium from zinc or aluminum. Have you found any other obvious areas of concern that would keep the boat off the water? In other words, not cosmetic issues or minor things, but something similar to the steering. My boat is an inboard outboard so it probably has more items that have been exposed to salt. Thanks in advance for your help

At present there have not been any mech. issues anywhere (including steering). I got this boat with just over 400 hours and it now has about 520 on it. I have spent some time going over items that are readily observed with respect to steering/trim (etc) and frankly everything looks good. The boat spent its life at Lip-Ship since it's delivery in late 2014 until it came up here in June of 2019. Being on LOTO and with lots more traffic on the water over the past 2 summers the boat has not had any issues, although I will freely admit I don't know that the physical life of these component you speak of would effected with so few hours. . This place is an excellent test bed FWIW for such because it can be damn rough and if any salt/water/air issues from the result of prolonged salt water life were to be found I would think it would have happened..

I keep boats on lifts at LOTO, and I keep a couple on lifts over the salt in Florida. The biggest thing that I see is the corrosion with wiring. In salt, everything needs to be tinned wire with shrink wrapped connections. I have seen that green corrosion make it a foot or more up a wire. I always spray down the back of the panel and the tops of batteries in order to at least slow it down.
on your boat, I am certain that the rigging is impeccable, so removing that factor means allot. Allot of the other stuff, like corrosion on the lower units, steering, cleats, etc would all be visible. Once cleaned well, and away from salt, the threat goes away. awesome looking boat, you should be very proud of it! |

It was suggested to me by my mechanic to use Fluid Film https://www.fluid-film.com/
I don't want to start an argument about what best, but this stuff seems to work out alright for us. |
