Default Mystic Building First Mercury Racing 450R-Powered M3800 Center Console

The Mystic team is anticipating big things from its first M3800 luxury performance center console to be equipped with a trio of Mercury Racing’s newest 4.6-liter V-8 outboard engines, https://speedonthewater.com/new-boat...center-console.

"Said Weber, “We think the 450R brings an entire new dimension to our center console line.”

I think Everybody said that with the into of the 400R. Short of Grenade-ing power heads, uncontrolled leaks or gear cases that don't last, the 450 was definitely going to receive a high demand... good to see John and his crew are as busy as ever as I am sure all the players in the CC market are

Nice write up Matt - have a Happy 4th!

“With triple 450Rs, the 42 topped out in the mid-80-mph range,” he continued. “That’s about the same as the same boat with quad (Mercury Racing) 400Rs.”

Cigarette says the Trianna picked up 10 mph.

Seems like the 450R is making around 500 HP, There is no way that Trianna picked up 10 mph with only 300 HP more, and the Mystic runs similar with 250 HP less? I could be wrong but the numbers never lie.

I saw the 59 Tiranna's GPS recorded number. It was 82 mph.

As for the rest, take it up with Mercury Racing. They do not supply dyno sheets to the public, so I'm not sure where you'll get.

Happy July 4.

Was not expecting any answers from Mercury, seems pretty clear they are being conservative with that 450 HP number. Did you ride on the Tiranna with the 400's? It was at GHM the other day those guys set up camp there when they are here for poker runs, everything in black, cars, boats, trailers, ...

Was also hoping to see a little conversation on the topic, from others with more knowledge than I, but this forum is becoming a ghost town.

We shot the 59 Tirranna in Miami but didn't get a chance to ride in it. So no 400R-power experience in that boat. The 72-mph top speed number with 400s came from Cigarette. But I did ride in it with 450Rs and cruising in the 70- to 75-mph range was easy.

I agree, In running the numbers for those who know the math on 450hp does not work. Guess we will see when the full production engines hit the market. Mercury has always been on the high side using about 10 percent in the past. I believe when the first 350hp verado came out I think it was around 375hp. The 300r is supposedly around 333hp. I would guess the 450 to be at least 480 or more. Just my .02 cents.
Also agree with the ghost town comment.

I don't think anybody is getting as excited over the 450R as they were over the 400R because the 400Rs were really the game changer. Now, the 450Rs are just like a bonus, but the game was already changed and established with the 400R. In my opinion, it's the same as the 1350, and subsequent releases. When the 1350 was released, it saw huge fanfare/accolades/press, as it was truly a game changer in the inboard market. Every engine since the 1350 (860/1100/1550/1650/1750) has not received near the attention because the standard had already been upped/established when the 1350 was released. Almost every friend I have with 400R boats is happy with the performance, and says they have no interest in upgrading to 450Rs. Not saying they aren't a better motor than the 400R, but for how much more they cost, they aren't worth the added performance. And if I were building a new midsize cat (34'-38') I would probably spend the extra money to jump up to inboard power now that the 450R is getting close to the cost of the bigger power inboard packages. Sorry to get off the thread subject a little, but it seems like this is the direction it went...….
