How long will it go?
After a recent responce on another thread I thought it would be interesting to hear how long we all made them run. Not so important what, but how long! Here goes, craftsman 8 hp ride on mower 21 years and still cutting grass.:D

The record for a automobile is 1,690,000 miles,Also I have heard of a Cadillac that went more than 700,000 miles with out any rebuilding at all .
Problem for a Boat (the load) is like a dump truck going up hill constantly full of Dirt ! Unless it is one of my Cats they do not require much "Engine wise" to go fast ! :D |
Troutly
LOL now that is a long ways !! like 83 times around the Earth . |
I have an 85 Chevrolet 1/2 ton 4x4 with a 6.2 Diesel at over 550,000 miles and still counting. I also have an 83 Cadillac Sedan DeVille with a 4.1L V8(yes, its the engine that everyone has had problems with) with over 350,000 miles on it and its still going(knock on wood).I change the oil in both every 5,000 miles. I run Case IH Low Ash 10w40 in the Cadillac and Low Ash 15w40 in the Chevrolet. The "tractor oil" as it is commonly called performs better than most oils you can buy at the local auto parts store. I've ran that particular brand of oil in my tractors and combines(gas or diesel) as long as I can remember and have had huge success with it. It costs about the same as well.

I'm a jet mechanic by trade- I like to keep up with maintenance on stuff!
'89 Toyota Corolla wagon 210,000 miles, driven daily to Chicago 150 miles round trip, engine and trans original and untouched. 1971 Sears garden tractor, runs a 44" deck in the summer, 52" 2-stage blower in the winter. Original 2 cyl. Onan horizontally-oppposed engine. '88 Suburban Silverado 1/2 ton 4x4 125,000 miles, all towing. First 75,000 was pulling a large Airstream. We have delivery trucks that are well into the 300k range. They run on propane from day 1 and have had Mobile 1 since it has been available.
Get this 550k + with two rebiulds. These trucks are carrying steel cylinders all day.......drive shafts are not as lucky as the motors. |
