Guy pays for a brand new 74 Sunseeker in full, dealer has a dispute with Sunseeker. Sunseeker is not delivering the boat.

It is a mess for sure!

Jeff Gibbs has been playing games at all three dealerships (Clinton/East Peoria/Sullivan) for some time now. Last year he was taking sold boats off of lifts at Clinton Lake without owner permission to show false inventory on his lot. You think his old man (Jim) would have learned from the GRB/GRC debacle years ago at LOTO and never let him take over Clinton Marine once he retired.

Sad thing is you buy the boat, or Yacht, from a dealer - not the MFG..I know of a dealer network that was selling NNC boats they had to have known they couldn't deliver due to frozen engines... but wrote the contracts and the clients were paying on the boats expecting delivery.

Unfortunately, you do not know the sh*tstorm you are buying into until it can be too late... that's why a good dealer/ MFG direct is well documented on forums such as this

possibly the same scenario as an American boat builder - the builder assembles the boat and will represent the components in order to keep the customer satisfied but in reality, they are taking on the burden of undertaking the warranty process with the failed component.... step this up to say a Merc engine failing - Mercury is taking on the full warranty process and reimbursing the repair center, not the builder of the boat owning the responsibility to cover the engine whether it is $25k or $2.5 mil build

* Warranty may be conducted through the boat builder's facility/ rigging shop but it is Merc reimbursing the costs... just as an example.

As with any warranty - its only covered by warranty when the warranty application/submission has been approved by the component MFG and not your salesman, buddy or whoever else may say,"it's covered!"

When warranty is declined for whatever reason - someone else is paying!

If there is one thing my father taught me is , do not pay up front for anything. When the title,deed, or product exchanges hands so does the check.

Especially in this day and age of people walking away with huge sums of others peoples money with no conscience or consideration.

He has had some close calls and got screwed once out of $200 Grand by a ScumBag attorney. DirtBall moved into the new house before closing while we were up north on vacation on the boat It was back in 1978 when the development\housing business was on its way to crashing.

35 years in SW Florida you see a lot of pool builders,contractors,roofers,Hvac Take the money and run deals.

I know this deal is a Whole Nother Story. Bet the guy will have to cough up another big chunk to get his boat.

Desperate times call for desperate money grabs in some peoples minds.
