Friend needs help with ASD
I have a friend that needs info on an Arneson drive, but I don't know enough about them to know what he has. The only markings on it are "Arneson Patent Pending", "Borg Warner" and the number on a plate on the side "M&L 19438".
It is fully articulable. It has a transmission. I would estimate it's age at 15 years plus. Can anyone tell me anything about from this small amount of info? If you can't, who can? |
have you tried the source ? www.arneson-industries.com I'm sure a call to them could shed some light
|
Not yet, but it was late when I got in.
Are you saying some silly manufacturer is more informative than OSO?;) |
:D :D good point...on this subject they have me beat....
|
Kaama,
I........D A M N sure wouldn't say that Arneson was some "SILLY MANUFACTURER" Have you lost your F@^&ING MIND? Do you KNOW who Howard Arneson IS? Do you KNOW what he's done for offshore performance boating? For making 100' plus YACHTS go over 80 mph? DAMN BOY do the research before you call someone " a silly manufacturer" Robert |
That was a joke. Yes, I know Arneson drives are the next best thing to sex*, but the factory was probably closed last night at 9:00 pm.
______ * Depending on the engine option. 900hp+ could be better than sex. |

Talked to Rick from Arneson, and he is in New Orleans. Until he gets back to the factory, I am posting these here. Still hunting info if you got it.

That's a ASD 6, They also made a drop box unit ASD 6.
Rik can get part's if needed. The gearing is in the trannie, the drive is direct, 1:1. The drive should be able to handle 600hp or more. Do you have the steering and trim rams?? |
OK...........

asd6 or asd8 ?
GEOO : dont you think it looks bigger then asd6?!? |
It's a # 6...
It is a direct, straight shaft, no gears. The trannie has the only gears to change rotation or ratio. |
Kaama,
I have been doing some research for a while now because I am about to purchase a cat and speed is #2 on my list as to reliabilty and longevity, so Arneson's are going to be my drives of choice. Can you post any info you gain about them reguarding setup and anything else? Also 15 years is a pretty long life for a performance drive, is that what someone should expect for the life of an Arneson? Also why is your friend in need of another? Thanks Mark |
Originally posted by Mark in So. MD speed is #2 on my list as to reliabilty and longevity, so Arneson's are going to be my drives of choice. Actually, surface drives seem to be the longevity leaders, from what I have been reading. In real life, the drive in the pics was put on a boat in 1986 (by the same friend that owns it now) that had been jet driven. It was still running when he pulled it off in October (never re-built). My boat is an '84, and still has the original drives. I know that is a limited sampling, but I don't know anything else powered for 15 years by a big block that has lasted that long. For info, try the Arneson site at the top, or run a search on this site. |
