Seatow vs twins
I got twins so that I could have redundancy for boating in the Gulf of Mexico. How many of you with twins also have a Sea-tow contract as a backup?
|
For the price of it if I had quads I’d still buy it and hope I never use it. |
^^^ Agreed^^^
|
^^^double agreed^^^
|
Agree. Seatow is a good thing regardless. |
Nope, 30 years of boating and never had seatow.
but I had twins always. ☠️😀 |
it works this way now that you have asked the question.....
If you buy it you will never need it. If you don't buy it, you WILL need it. |

I had the fuel pickup tube separate in the tank this year. Had to be towed in and the bill would have been $1200 without my sea tow plan. Never used it before and may never again but I will never be without it. |
All good responses...better to have it and don't use it than...
|
It's so funny - I had a coil wire short out the other day and had to go to the ramp on one motor, and felt nervous on only one engine. Had to keep telling myself that most people always boat on one motor |
I have both. Fuel and battery issues can still strand twin engine boats. |

I have triple outboards but still wouldn’t think of boating in the Gulf without Seatow. One tow pays your membership for 10 years lol. |

I have twins and had to use it this year. . I got water in my fuel. Neither engine would run. Last time I got towed in was 25 years ago. $50/ year beats $1200 for a tow

Keep your SeaTow or BoatUS or whatever is best in your area. BoatUS pissed me off when I needed LAND towing help, as my truck broke down. They found some technicality to get out of helping me just like AAA RV+ did. BUT, BoatUS and SeaTow have high volume trash pumps and salvage capabilities that you hope you never need; but twins won’t help you with. Years back, I had a drive fall off of my 37AT due to a broken helmet. I was very lucky as I was within site of the ramp where my trailer was, and I did not take on water (bellows stayed intact). But that could have been a completely different story. Only the hydraulic steering rams kept me from losing the drive completely. |

WTF you don't do regular maintenance?

Last trip out my batteries failed and I needed boat US to come out twice over the weekend to give me a jump start. All covered covered under my Boat US membership. Definitely worth the annual cost.

Lost a drive about 7 years ago up near Stuart. Sea Tow Showed up and pulled us with a 50 foot line outside from Stuart to Boynton Beach inlet. Told us to get on the throttle on the remaining engine and towed us home about 25 MPH on plane. That would have been over 5+ hours at 6MPH on one engine. Never knew it was even possible, "You want me to do what?", we gave it a try and my boat jumped right on plane.
I will never boat without Sea Tow ever again. |

Still good to have though, imo. |

Where do you get sea tow for $50 a year? Lol
|
Boat US with Trailer Guard AND AAA here. No matter how many engines you have they won't help get you out of a hard grounding situation nor will they help with a catastrophic trailer issue. BoatUS plus also hauls your boat out in the event of a hurricane and other perils. Hell the trailer guard is $15 a year, laughable not to opt. in.

I need to get Sea tow again, I was nervous everytime I was in the Sound this year. Well worth the small investment. Esp since I am single engine powered.

Well $50 X 25 years = $1250 of investment, so technically it doesn’t beat it;) Still good to have though, imo. Over double. |
Tom,
I had one two with BoatUS that would have cost me well over $3k had I not had the "gold" level of towing through them. My buddy and I broke a drive about 45 miles from the ramp. The tow was going to be at night across the Chesapeake Bay and into the Atlantic to get back to the inlet and our trailer (granted we could have been towed closer in and worked out a way to get the trailer to us). The meter starts running as soon as the boat leaves to come get you so the dollars add up fast! The ride back was interesting/fun, and it only cost my $50 dollars out of pocket as well as some beer to give the guy for a tip (all we had on us). I think the cost back them was $125 for unlimited towing... maybe $180 now?. That one tow sold me and I've renewed it year after year ever since without question. |

I think you should see how much it is now. More like $116.00 and more. Per year.
Over double. Less then 1/2 tank of gas,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Just a little more then a mercury water pump rebuild kit,,,, Really even if its $200 one long tow and it pays for itself. I know i barely notice when I pay mine every year. |
Okay...TowBoat U.S. or Sea-Tow?
Mainly Gulf of Mexico (Florida Panhandle) and intracoastal waterways. Thanks, Tom |
