Not meaning to take anything away from the original posters accomplishments, just my observation |
No, I agree that the Sea time requirement is a pretty ineffective way to gauge proficiency on the water. I always say the same thing about the General Contractors certification here in Florida. This state is crawling with push button builders that can’t put a blade on a skillsaw, much less use one. At least they have raised the requirements for passing the plotting section to a 90%. The Captain that proctored my exam had just finished a charter in 6-8’ wind blown seas, and all I could think was, this guy has really bad judgment.There are somethings the Coast Guard just can’t test. |

when you get to upper level licenses and start testing at the coast guard it gets real fun. Hell these kids can come out of maritime academy’s with very few days on an actual vessel with a 3rd mate unlimited. Then they come out to the oilfield and get quickly exposed. Lol |
