New boat search

Looking for a new speed boat. 25' - 27' with small but accessible cuddy. No CC's. Prefer inboard with surface drive. I've tried most builders listed on this site. The ZT 275 by Checkmate is as close as I have found to what I'm searching for. They are no longer taking orders. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.
Thanks

Outerlimits Sv 29?

whistler 11-18-2019 06:56 PM

I've talked to Outerlimits about the 29. It's longer then I wanted this time. Just sold my 382 and wanted to downsize to the mid 20's.
On the Speedster, I can't find any current info.

Give Scott at Velocity a call, I am sure he will build a boat for you.

When you are ready to purchase that dream boat, and are thinking about coast guard documentation, give us a call. Even if you don't pursue documentation, and should you have questions about it, we would be happy to assist.

I have been very happy with my Advantage boats. I have had a 27 Victory, a 28 Victory and currently have a 28 Sport Cat. Give Bob a call, he will build you anything that you want.

Sydwayz 11-19-2019 10:19 AM

Pat @ Active Thunder built a 28' AT for a guy who wanted a surface drive with Ford power. Pat built the boat with full interior, wiring, dash, paint, etc, and the owner finished rigging the boat himself. It turned out awesome. Now that Pat has cut over to the 29' Active Thunder with the DDC single step, I can see a newer version being twice as awesome.

28 Howard seems to be one of the most capable in terms of speed and it sounds like that is what your after. Laveycraft another good west coast boat. Hustler 266 Rocket

Yes, I saw that. Pat also has a 22' Active Thunder as well, but he hasn't marketed it in the past few years. I'm certain he'd build another one though.

He built one for Harry Schoell which had a Pulse Drive on it back in the day.

This one was obviously an OB configuration. It was repainted and I came close to buying it several years ago.

Just to clarify the 29 Outerlimits does not have a 3ft bustle and total LOA is 30’ 1”.

LaveyCraft 2750 would be a good choice. Been several built with big power, they can set them up for speed. Good size cabin and they’re great in rough water.

formulavt 11-20-2019 11:18 AM

x2 Velocity, Scott will build you exactly what you want!!

Boatlesss 11-20-2019 11:37 AM

what kind of water are you runnin in? some of the boats mentiond are very shallow in freeboard so there flat water boats and then some have a lot of freeboard. each suited for a different lake setup

Sorry about that I was just going off what a owner had said the running service was and taking a guess. But thinking about it he might have also subtracted the notch. Personally doesn't matter to me, they are cool boats and can't wait to see the twin OB one.

whistler 11-20-2019 04:44 PM

Thank you all for your input. I've started reaching out to some of the builders that were mentioned plus another one I came across. In regards to the type of water I run in. With this boat I'll be staying on the river which can be like glass or rough. I'm looking for a deep V.

outlaw511 11-21-2019 12:18 AM

Check out the new 24ft or 27ft Baja outlaw. Believe you can upgrade motor in the 27. On my 3'rd outlaw now, great boat for the $

IGetWet 11-21-2019 07:02 AM

Not a outerlimits or laveycraft but could be had for a fraction of one of those. Kicking around the idea of something bigger.

I like the 28 EVO R. Even saw it was F/S. Still new, never finished / rigged.

I've been eyeing the Baja's for a while. The website pics make the cabins look difficult to enter. As an owner, can you tell me if the opening to the cabin is user friendly?
I like the 24 or the 27.

are you referring to this 28 Evo-R in the classifieds? I believe the one pictured (which is beautiful) is in Germany still.

Fairly easy to get in the cabin. My buddy has a 2003 25ft, great boat. He used to keep it up in the Atlantic City area. Handled the ocean great. He now has it down in Cape Coral. Rides great in the Gulf. He has the 496HO, 425 hp. Tops out around 65 mph

The door to the cabin is on the smaller side, but I’m 6’4” and manage just fine. The cabin itself is one of the most spacious you’ll find in a boat that size. For a “25 foot boat” it does everything really well. I wish they did the cockpit better on the new Baja's, seats, dash layout etc

One of my biggest questions with sit down boats, especially the one like pictured: where do you put the yeti?!

whistler 11-22-2019 07:43 PM

As suggested by FormulaVT, I called Scott at Velocity today. I'm glad I did. Sounds like they are willing to build to my preferences just like FormulaVT said.
Thanks again.

Thinking outside the square, 'Top Banana' on here would probably be keen to build you a 28' Banana (Cigarette) if you're into old school stuff with newer technology. Just a thought.

Great! Velocity are great boats and fast. Which model are you thinking of? I am partial, of course to the VR1.

There are 2 guys in the Pantera owners section that have brand new 28 hulls.

I'm leaning towards the 260 VR. It's just the right size for my older lift and I can easily handle by myself at the ramp.
After wrestling with my 382 for years, I'm ready for a smaller speeder.
