390 Nortech
Figured I would share some progress pictures of my build because, it's starting to actually look like a real boat and not some figment of my imagination!

LUCKY! I guess that means my end of January date is pretty accurate.
Thats an awesome combo-very clean. What silver is that? Are you picking it up? |
Very nice! My 18 has quad 4's but I would rather have the trip 450's. The first picture looks like the cut-outs are for the smaller Garmins with either a vessel view or radio cut out in the middle, then in later pictures it shows the larger Garmins. That's the set-up I have, larger Garmins on the dash and the radio is inside the console. I am thinking of adding a radio remote on the overhead panel - I don't like taking up a big screen for the radio & I feel like I'm constantly changing songs or the volume & switching screens to get back to the radio is a pain in the ass. My phone can change the song but does not adjust volume. Good luck with the rest of the build!
|
I was definitely coached by my dealer towards 3 motors for performance and handling, as much as I wanted 4.
Thr original cutout you see was a temporary dummy board during the build. The radio situation has been a sore topic. NASCAT helped me out a bunch when going through my build since he’s owned more Nortechs than Trond lol. I ended up opting for the 22 which takes up all the space on dash. I could’ve placed the radio near the physical switches and OSB off on port side, but I didn’t want all the clutter. I’m shooting for adding a remote next to my coast key. Well see if there is room. Like you said I’d just like an easy volume control without screen switching and swiping. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3c0874f0f.jpeg I have vessel view and auto pilot up on my ttop box. |
Yes, that's what I have - vessel view and auto pilot on ttop box. There is room for the MMR-20 remote above either one - I checked yesterday when I was at the boat. I'll try to stop by the boat in the next few days tol take a picture.
|
We shall see they yard is working on it. Personally, I preferred to keep it near the steering wheel for quick access instead of reaching up just to lower the volume.
definitely share pics! |
Great looking boat! You’re going to love it. Post some numbers when you get it broken in.
Very curious how much difference with trip 450’s. |
Those are both great looking Nor-Tech's congrats to you both.
Really like the colors of your boat Erik. Timeless colors! I believe the first NT-390 w/ triple 450's built ran 87mph. The struggle w/ the 450's has been the water p/u's and the engines going into safe mode if they suck air. I've even experienced it w/ my 350's in rough water at high speeds. The main dash definitely becomes a space issue when someone opts for the larger screens. I find that I use the Vessel View to monitor engine performance, trim & tab more than the engine page on my screen thus me keeping it centered and in easy view. The nice thing about the 22" screens is that you can create pages w/ quadrants and view several things at one time on each screen. Especially helpful boating at night if you have radar & or FLIR. I have the JL Audio Bluetooth version of that remote, Can be located anywhere on the boat w/ dbl stick tape or velcro. I keep mine loose / in my pocket when anchored or docked so I always have access to it. Works perfect, never loses connection and it's waterproof. Like $80 As it relates to painted engines (Verado 350's & 400's) they are pretty BUT expect the paint to begin chipping off where the 2 halves of the lower unit meet on the backside of the engine. The edges rub and work against each other during use. Non-issue w/ the 450's base on the different cowl design. You may wish to apply a 1" piece of clear tape ( something thicker, paint protection tape, not packing tape) which will help. Better yet would be to have the paint shop color match paint a few 1 x 36" strips of vinyl (decal material) b/c I can tell you when I pull off the clear tape, some paint is going to come off w/ it. The clear also turns sooty looking from the exhaust. You guys have a chance to do something in advance of use, mine was more of a corrective approach. Keep the pics coming!! |
Thanks Nascat,
Can you send a picture of the remote? like you said, fortunately my motors are white from Mercury so hopefully will not have chipping issue. The exhaust soot and/or waterline will be the heavy maintenance part for aesthetics. Only paint will be on the midline panels. Side graphics are all vinyl as Nortech didn’t want to paint the side of the white motor. where are you talking specifically to add the clear? |
Sorry I lied, I have JL speakers but a Fusion head unit so it’s a Fusion MS-ARX70. Comes in white or black
|
I have a fusion head unit. Didn't need a remote, just download their app to your phone which connects via bluetooth. Everything is available via your phone app, Plus you can stream from your phone. As far as your white engines, I've not had any problem with the fusion white from Merc chipping. My old 300s, which were painted white by NorTech did have a few minor chips. Water lines wipe right off, assuming you wax them now and then. Soot below the exhaust port doesn't wipe off as easy. I wipe mine off every time out, then apply a few drips of wax just under the exhaust port every time out. Takes no time at all. But eventually you will get a light yellowish stain mark just below the port that won't come out. It's not a big deal, it is barely noticeable once cleaned up.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Its called Iridium Silver.
Yes i'm flying down Dec 18 and staying at my house in Cape Coral until Jan 6. So it will be at the ramp first thing December 19..... Unfortunately I still have my 34 down there too, not sold yet lol. |

you should be able to add the stereo to a lower bar on the garmin. Then it just displays the song title, artist volume and track forward/back. Only takes 3/4” along the bottom (or top) of one screen.

Can’t see why the 450r would be any different than 400r? Or is the water pick up much lower? |
More progress...boat should be moved from main rigging center to the other yard for final portion of build and paint.
It’s awesome to see how quickly things pick up and come together! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...069f70876.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...97e313cdf.jpeg |
I think I saw your boat being moved this afternoon in Cape Coral. I couldn’t get a good look at it, but I think it was yours
|

What?! They moved my boat!? :riding: jk! I’m anticipating the move from rigging center to main yard this week. Which is perfect I’m flying down thurs/fri for a walk through and finalization. Did you take any pics?! here’s an update I received today. |
What’s the plan for the hull of your boat, a wrap?
or is it scheduled for paint following rigging? |
The latter, the final paint for hull and motors will take place at the main factory.
Here's the original rendering. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...dacc5c031.jpeg |
That will look great, love the color and design. Friend of mine just got his a few months ago, sent to V-Imigination here in MO for final paint. If yours is what the factory will do in-house thats nice
|
I wonder why they paint some boats before heading to the rig shop and some boats after rigging? Mine was pained before it went from Ft. Myers to Cape Coral.
|
That makes sense, mine was assembled and painted in similar order.
Blue NT center consoles seems to be a popular color choice over the past few years. Used to be gray back in 2014-2016. I had a guy looking for a boat who was referred to me but refused to buy my boat b/c it wasn't blue. Tall order since he was hunting a boat 2 weeks before Key West poker run. Nor-Tech has an excellent in house painter, his name is Paul D. He painted all 3 of of my boats. |

They can't have boat sitting idle waiting on paint. Some take longer to paint than others as do some take longer to rig. Painted first is easiest for the paint shop initially but typically results in many touch ups / do overs. Painted last means least exposure to riggers and others before delivery but more to tape off and work around. |

Nor-Tech has an excellent in house painter, his name is Paul D. He painted all 3 of of my boats. The workflow is amazing, they are pretty efficient with their build process- almost to a fault. They have given decent push back on "over customization" as it disrupts the chain and sequence. Which is nice because you get the boat on time although, it limits what else you can add to the boat. My boat went into production August 21 and they gave me a Late January delivery date, and that seems to be spot on. There are a few new custom items they are doing for me, so I do give Bob @ So-Flo lot of credit for making that happen and pushing Nor-tech. It was also explained to me just like Nascat stated. They really prefer to have the hull painted as the last step in the build as it creates he least amount of liability and headaches for them with touching up and tip-toeing. Only parts I painted inside the boat was the helm seat and the console itself. So, that's a decent of paint to worry about not damaging but, not nearly as much as the nortechs that have all the gunnels and stuff painted. That must be a nightmare to work around but hey they figure it out and boats all come out beautiful. |
He bought a Scout or something but not in time for KW.
NT considers themselves "Semi-Custom" and I think that's an accurate assessment of their boat builds. Nils is a genius and can make anything happen, they dread when a customer happens to interact w/ him & he says "yea I can do that" Couple that w/ all the internal updates and redesign work they have in the works & I can see why they hate to tell customers no but must do so in many cases otherwise their annual production will be way down. Nils & the gang have helped make many things happen for me over the years, some have become standard, others now offered as options. Modify telescoping ladder to accommodate 380 K-Planes U shape bow seating w/ a fill cushion Bow lounger w/ lumbar support Hinged cabin berth extension Carbon Fiber in place of cabin lexan Shore power connection at helm Windlass delete, add Fortress storage |
Great looking Boat and thread. Giving me the itch again. 😉😉
|
You certainly have upped the ante for Nor-tech! And truly, they should keep offering new styles/designs and custom pieces for us consumers.
Hopefully will have more pictures of the build to share later this week! |
I have certainly been occupied on my new, unbelievable, vessel. It's amazing, and yes this is the first boat that I personally have owned. I love it.
