Qty 4 please

Way cool!
|
i was actually just wondering when someone would put some turbos on an outboard....with efi systems now a days it seems everyone is going turbo... :)
|
I read that in a local new release last week. Great achievement but the real world would be can it last 1500-2000 hours.
Of course the lower would be a weak link,,, |
It won’t last 100 hours. The exhaust is going to catch something on fire the first long stretch. But he may have accomplished his goal.
|
I’ve seen at least one turbo two stroke OB in the past. I’m sure they’ll come down the line at some point but obviously this one is just another cool one off project. If they get 20hrs out of it I’m sure they’d be thrilled.
|
Thats not a 2 stroke is it?
|
Tl;dr
they created the first four-stroke outboard marine engine with turbopower. It's estimated to produce more than 600 horsepower while only weighing 661 pounds. The fastest outboard engine on the market produces 627 horsepower but weighs twice as much. |
Article states 4 stroke.
Exhaust is not watercooled. Oh well, keep the cover off. LOL...I know just a college project. Not one from MIT or etc where the budget is massive and really coming out with new never discovered technology and etc. Either way, cool to see. Definitely a fun project for school. I would have loved it. |
.
I believe this is just a proof of concept that these technical and talented students have enough knowledge to use CAD to design say the twin-intercooled plenum I bet if this went forward in development, that they could easily design a water-jacketed (and thus water-cooled) exhaust manifolds just my .02c . |
