Howard and his iconic turbine 46 will always hold a special place with me. His '95 (46 #9) was one of the early 46s that also helped build the legend of Skater's biggest model. To my knowledge, it is the only single engine 46 ever built with a pod. The boat was truly used as a test boat for Howard to try hundreds of different ideas on. It still amazes me that such a huge boat could run so well with a single surfacing prop pushing it. I was glad to be able to get by and see Howard right before the holidays - he's still doing really well at the young-at-heart age of 98!

I'm not 100% certain these aren't the same 46, just converted to fixed SSMVI from the original Arneson/BPM drives. Either way, I was told the motors that were in Freedom when I got it were originally a set of motors for Dave Scott's 46 Skater. They're Sterling, Big Chief 14 degree head 557s with the large "D" case PSIs on them. We've pulled the EFI off of them and are going back to carburetors during the complete rebuild process. These were not the same motors Freedom had in it when Jim traded it to Ron for Double Take. These motors were actually in Lickity Split for a while and ran a 172.
